Just an interesting tidbit here. But Melody said that she thinks only about 15 of the “freaky eyed” Spectrals were made. So they are rare.

yup….and only 2 with that special sparkley paint stuff…
I wasn’t sure about the spectral eyes either till I saw one in person! Then I really liked them. The ‘halo’ of color with the lightest in the center and the darkest at the edges makes them feel as if they have pupils, but they are glowing and ethereal. 🙂 At least to me. Photos don’t do justice to this effect.

And those 2 belong to you and DM. I bet those look really cool out in the sun… being all sparkly and twinkly n’ stuff.
I need to try and get me one of those special red fire ones. They have the neat auto paint on them.
LOL…I only had mine out in the sun once…it did look cool too….
but I’m not sure how many times it will get out there…

I can’t stand the sight of empty sockets either. As a kid I nearly had a nervous breakdown riding “Pirates of the Caribbean”. When the boats pass under the talking skull . . . not a happy kid!
The biggest difference when seeing the Spectrals in person is that the eyes look a lot more eyelike. Like lamortefille says, they’re more three-dimensional than they look in the photos. And the colors do seem to form a pupil like Nam describes. The fact that the colors change depending on how the light hits the globe is a really nice effect. Photos can’t really show any of that, so they come across looking really weird. In person, the eyes blend with the rest of the dragon a lot better.
And the eyes reflect back even in very low light. This is why they’re not in the bedroom. My imagination would have a field day with that kind of inspiration; I see/dream all kinds of bizarre stuff when I’m half-asleep as it is. 😛 And nooo, silly imagination wouldn’t say they were the eyes of something nice, like a fire-lizard. 🙄
Hehe…when I repaired one, that’s exactly what my hubby said! His imagination does some scary stuff with those eyes too! 😀
Thanks. I really enjoyed doing them, but since they asked me to stop doing repaints, I decided to sculpt my own stuffs to paint. That helped stop the temptation. I really miss the pink lap though, I think that was my favorite of all the ones I sold. 🙂

Sounds beautiful! I still don’t know about the eyes, though 😳 Barrdwings imagination sounds like mine. I still have a tough time reeling it in… 🙄
