Yikes, poor thing 🙁 As already mentioned, repairing the rubs isn’t too difficult, especially with experienced members offering to help, but replacing that horn without further damage is really, really iffy. I’d suggest returning him and looking for another especially since any horn repair might do further damage. But if you can’t let yourself give him up, then I’d ask for $100 back and see what she counters with. But I hear you on the holy grail, my Ki-rins are my favorites (still missing the baby though).
:hi: If you are still looking for a baby, there is one on ebay now 8)
Every act matters. No matter how small💞

Male Hearth....one day🤞Dream on.April 18, 2009 at 2:21 am #759475cherisherself, if you need any help in filing your dispute, you can call this number– 1 888 221 1161– and talk to a real live paypal person who can help you and answer any questions you have. They are very helpful and patient even with computer-illiterates like me. (If you get the rare crankypants, there is a survey they send you asking about their service and you can report the person. They really do pay attention to the surveys.) Let us know how it goes, ok?
April 22, 2009 at 8:13 am #759476Well, she didn’t contact me for a week after I sent her the photos, so I filed a dispute on Paypal. That had a result! I got a curt reply but she’s refunding me the full $100 and I get to keep the kirin. So I’m gonna give repairing his horn a try. If it doesn’t go well, repainting him would be a dream come true some day 😉
Thanks for all your help everyone.
April 22, 2009 at 10:35 am #759477Glad she refunded you! 🙂
I can’t beleive how some sellers are, they don’t reply to you when there is a problem and then when you file a dispute they get all insulted. 😡
ALLO?
I guess some think we won’t fight back. 😉April 22, 2009 at 11:01 am #759478Well, I haven’t gotten the refund yet. I hope it goes smoothly! But after all this waiting I just couldn’t stop my itch to try popping off the horn…so after about 15 minutes of wiggling, here he is.
He did chip a little bit during the process, but nothing a little glue didn’t fix. The area would be hidden by the new horn anyhow. I also touched up his paint rubs. He’s looking rather handsome now, albeit bald. Now to hunt down a new horn for the fella ^___^
April 22, 2009 at 4:47 pm #759479That’s cool you could do that without wrecking him – apparently it hard to remove the horns without doing that. And your right, he’s still a very handsome fellow 😀 .

If you contact Windstone I bet Melody would send you a new horn for him. I’m pretty sure she has done this in past for broken horns. 🙂Looking for Blue Fawn Baby Kirin

I hope you didn’t take her word for it and closed the dispute…??
Wait until you have the refund and that it clears before closing the dispute.April 22, 2009 at 9:38 pm #759482I checked my e-mail this morning and she sent me a surprisingly nice message saying the refund had been made. And it had! The money’s gone over to my bank account (pending anyway) so I’d say it’s a done deal. I shouldn’t have popped off the horn until it officially came through but I just couldn’t wait anymore. Glad I got away with it.
If anyone’s interested in how I got the horn off:
I took drag0nfeathers’ suggestion and tried nail polish remover with acetone. I gently wiggled the horn back and forth for a good 3 or 4 minutes–until it started to give just enough that I could push/pry up (VERY CAREFULLY) to reveal a tiny space between the horn and figure. I could have spent longer on this part–this is where the chip started in his head from wiggling with a little too much force.
Once the horn was loosened, I took a q-tip and wet it with the acetone, then pressed it against the horn–not the figure–and let it run down and under the horn one drop at a time. This worked pretty well–almost no acetone ended up on the paint. Then I wiggled…and wiggled!! I would get as much as I could under one side and then work on the other side, and wiggle some more.
(Side note–I originally wanted a needle/syringe to inject the acetone accurately but didn’t know where to get one. My sister says kitten syringes can be had at feed supply stores–go fig. You don’t need a veterinary license either.)
After about 20 minutes of this slow wiggle-dribble-wiggle, the horn came up! It brought a tiny bit of plaster with it, but from inside the head-hole and nothing that would show on the outside. The biggest damage came from some of the acetone working its way under the area where the horn lays back against the kirin’s forehead. The paint there got damaged. I touched it up though, and when a new horn goes on, it won’t show.
April 22, 2009 at 10:11 pm #759483if it’s pending wait some more just to be on the safe side.

yes, you can buy syringes and needles from a feed store, Many people who own their own horses give their own shots ( I’m one)
As for the refund, Nat’s right, wait till the money has cleared. 😉 LaurieApril 23, 2009 at 1:41 am #759485Awesome, I’m glad it worked out. 😀 As others suggested, I’d email Melody with the photo (so she knows you aren’t trying to manufacture fake Kirins in your basement 😆 ) and ask if you can get a new horn. With being able to repair it and the partial refund, you got him at a great deal. And now he has a story 😉
April 23, 2009 at 6:28 am #759486Yeah he doesn’t remind me of the hassle anymore, after putting a little work into cleaning him up. I do feel like I got a good deal on him too, although the whole process of acquiring him was quite a hassle. All’s well that ends well. Now to e-mail Melody!
April 23, 2009 at 6:32 pm #759487Wow you got the refund and got to keep the sculpt? What a deal.
