My seller only had a feedback score of 3, I bit because as mentioned, daddy Kirin is my holy grail.
Was it the Cat Wizard fiasco??? I can’t really remember, but what stuck out the most was the Paypal issues you were having with the addresses always going unclaimed and an “old Paypal address” being mixed up into some silly situation that had an easy fix, but the seller wouldn’t cooperate. It’s always possible they made a new ebay account because they are selling Windstones again and that’s why the feedback number is so low.
I know that exact same thing happened to someone before….. I even think it may have been an ex forum member :negative:
As far as getting the horn out, it IS possible, but EXTREAMLY difficult! I found nail polish remover works best, but it WILL ruin the paint if it absorbs into the sculpture so you need to be VERY careful. Just a lot of wiggling and patience seems to work best, but KiRin horns are the worst! What Jennifer said is exactly what happens 99.9% of the time!
I’ve done a few repairs on Windstones and I can probably fix the sculpture for you. If you want to just pay the shipping for it here and back, I’ll try and fix up his knicks and chips free of charge as sort of a welcome gift 😀 You can ask other members, I’m very trustworthy and have been here quite a long time. Up to you though. Kyrin is really Ms Fix it around here!
I don’t know if I’d want to tackle the horn though. I only did it sucessfully once and I think that was blind luck. Lap dragon and scratching dragon horns are the easiest to replace. I bought a few broken Windstones and have repaired and resold them, but you can’t really fix a horn unfortunately, they amost always need to be replaced entirely.

The seller was an ex-forum member (only person to ever be banned). Can’t remember who the buyer was as I believe the thread was deleted.April 9, 2009 at 9:19 pm #759446OOooooooh! I remember who it was now.

I just got an e-mail from the seller and she claimed he was in perfect condition when she sent him, and when she listed him, which is why my now-battle-battered kirin was described as being in excellent condition. I think underpackaging could have played its cruel hand in this tale, what a sad end for the little guy after he managed to stay mint all these years–[sob]
He came in a pop-tarts box, single box, without enough peanuts and the bubble wrap wasn’t secured, just wrapped around and round, which might have been the cause of the rubs. She gave it an all right try, with fragile stickers and everything, but he was pretty underpackaged.
I asked her to send me the high-res of the photo she put on ebay, I’m going to send her pics tonight but I have to run for a doctor’s appointment. More as our story develops!
(And I’m happy it sort of seems like she’s honest too now, and just didn’t know…I have lots of faith in people.)
April 10, 2009 at 1:34 am #759448Poor packaging is a Windstone’s worst enemy! Well, she should still give you “something” back considering her bad packing caused all those rubs. Just my opinion. 😳
A Male Kirin in a pop tarts box…. how degrading 😥

She sounds more and more like the seller I bought a peacock young dragon from, with a chip in the horn (also cleverly hidden by the angle of the photo!) that she claimed must have happened while it was in the mail, oh yeah and i bet that’s when the chip was coloured purple to try to hide it, too! LOL In my mind, I went “pull the other leg, it’s got bells on it!” LOL And the whole “I was expecting to get more on it!!” was something my seller said too, I wonder if it IS the same person, feel free to PM me the listing, I could say for sure!
Sorry they are being such a jerk.
April 10, 2009 at 4:58 am #759452I’m betting on her having a new name and profile and ID. If it’s the one I’m guessing, it’s been done before by this seller. We’ll see.
April 10, 2009 at 5:46 pm #759453That sounds quite plausable *nods*

Sun Dragon Koi #3April 10, 2009 at 11:02 pm #759455Oh wow, thanks for all the helpful suggestions you guys. Here’s some pics of the damage. I’ve just sent them to the seller too, I’ll see what she says…
Here’s the photo she posted on ebay. When she sent me the high-res I could see the paint rubs were there when she listed him, which suggests the OTHER paint rubs I found were also there when she listed him. The horn is most definitely intact though. In the low-res, it was hard to tell if the horn was broken, or if it was just the angle.
Here’s the box he came in. Pop Tarts…….. 🙁 And you can see where his horn hit the inside of the box. He probably got dropped on his head or slammed up against another box.
And here’s how he came out of the box…you can see the broken horn in the first picture. It’s quite a contrast to the ebay pic. With that and the hole in the box, I think we can see what the culprit was–underpackaging! This just goes to show how important double boxing is. The seller did give it an ok try and he still got damaged. I think these rubs were there before though.
And the horn…oh, the carnage 😥
I’m thinking of just returning him and resuming my quest for my daddy. Or, getting a partial refund and keeping him. It depends on what the seller wants to do too. But based on the damage, what do you think I should ask for if I try for a partial refund? I paid $158, about $168 with shipping. I was thinking of asking for $100 back. I figured I’d start kind of high. What do you guys think would be a fair price to pay for this biffed-up kirin? Any other suggestions?
April 10, 2009 at 11:09 pm #759456Ebay sale prices of non-mint male ki-rins from Oct. 1 2006 – Sept. 30, 2008. There were 11 sold in that time. The highest priced one was $127.73, the lowest priced one was $36.00. Average retail price: $90.97.
There may have been other non-mint male ki-rins sold in that time, but I haven’t added that data to the database just yet. Real-life has been a little hectic since I moved in Sept. 2008.
April 10, 2009 at 11:10 pm #759457I’d ask for the $100 back, but realistically, I’d WANT at least $75 back given the damage and the situation. That’s splitting the difference for the most part for the sellers own faulty packaging. They should have known better, PLUS it wasn’t as decreibed in the first place. I guess these days you should be happy to get anything back from ebay sellers.
Other possiblities are maybe the seller could pay to have Kyrin fix him for you? Or you could just return him entirely, but I’d be afraid the seller wouldn’t live up to their end of the bargain… that REEKS of the former member we were speaking of to get the piece back AND then keep the cash. If you DID send it back, put tracking on it so you can provide Paypal with that information JUST IN CASE you have to file a claim, your behind is covered and you can FORCE a refund if necessary. That’s how I won my battle, if indeed, it is the same person.

Dreamscape, Orion, Poison Dart, Fireberry, Spangler + Tigerberry DragonsApril 12, 2009 at 12:44 am #759458Yikes, poor thing 🙁 As already mentioned, repairing the rubs isn’t too difficult, especially with experienced members offering to help, but replacing that horn without further damage is really, really iffy. I’d suggest returning him and looking for another especially since any horn repair might do further damage. But if you can’t let yourself give him up, then I’d ask for $100 back and see what she counters with. But I hear you on the holy grail, my Ki-rins are my favorites (still missing the baby though).
