Aw, they’re beautiful cats, and so huggable-looking 😀
September 7, 2007 at 10:02 pm #614051Very beautiful cats….but I have to be honest…I couldn’t see a difference between the cats. I guess it would be something simular to different colors in dogs I am guessing (more of a dog person).
September 8, 2007 at 1:33 am #614052Sorry, this is a dumb question. But, maybe you know. What is the difference between ragdolls and ragamuffins? They seem to be alot alike.
I love ragdolls, I almost bought one a few years ago. But, one of my boys has a bit of ragdoll in him. So I’m content with that.
September 8, 2007 at 1:50 am #614053OOH! they look like my Himalayans!!! I have two seal point boy brothers, they’re nose are a little stubbier than your kitties though!

September 8, 2007 at 12:06 pm #614055The ragdolls are beautiful. I think the colors would look great on a flapcat.

i think loosely speaking a ragamuffin is basically a ragdoll, but with any color and patterning other than pointing. for example, a red tabby coloration instead of seal point; the classic “siamese” markings are reserved for the ragdoll..correct me if i’m wrong though folks, its been a while……

Ok found some info for you. It seems that the Ragamuffin came from the Ragdoll from the creator of the Ragdoll. Here is the info I found for you:)
Difference from a Ragdoll: The Ragamuffin has a shorter, scooped nose, while the Ragdoll has a gentle curve with the final segment straight. Rather than having a flat plane between the ears, the skull of the Ragamuffin is gently rounded. The Ragamuffin has a bit more chubby-looking face, and slightly tipped forward ears. Ragamuffin breeders also emphasize a sweet expression and walnut shaped eyes rather than the oval eyes seen in the Ragdolls. The Ragamuffin is allowed to outcross with certain other breeds every fifth generation which is important for maintaining the excellent health of the breed.
Many believe the Ragamuffin resulted from accidental breeding. Some accounts suggested Mrs. Baker started the breed in the 1960s with a Ragdoll cat named Josephine and a regular, non-pedigree cat. The kittens turned out so cute and so special that Mrs. Baker wanted to preserve their special qualities by breeding Josephine’s offspring and by being the only person to breed and sell Ragamuffins. Mrs. Baker’s restrictions created friction between her and other breeders who, ultimately, branched off on their own and pushed for the new registry with the CFA.
This breed has several of the color formations that are present on Ragdolls, but also has a variety of different colors. Some colors include: all variations of pointed color, including Tortie Point, Red Point, and Lynx Point.
The only extreme allowed in this breed is the very docile nature. The Ragamuffin loves people and is very cuddly and affectionate, with a tendency to go limp when held. While not terribly athletic, they love playing and climbing scratching posts and some will even fetch toys. They greet family members at the door and will follow their people around the house. Though some have been known to bite when not given the desired attention.
Because of their gentle nature, Ragamuffins are generally kept indoors for their own protection.

We had seriously thought about getting one before we got the ragdoll, there are alot of breeders since we are so close to Norwegia, but the Ragdoll won our hearts:)
September 8, 2007 at 3:44 pm #614058I think ragdolls are really gorgeous and cool! All my cats are mutts though…especially one-eyed Lydia with her ear tattoo…my baaaaby! I just like cats in general, though I think the ragdoll coloration or birman are my favorite color patterns on a cat. 😀

I’ve had the pleasure to meet a Norwegian Forest Cat, they are beautiful animals X3
September 10, 2007 at 4:08 am #614062Oh my goodness I’d lob off a limb to get one of those. Two of my dearest friends in the world lost their ragdolls in a fire and while they now have two new kittens, it would be wonderful to be able to get them something to memorialize their old fuzzies.

Oh that’s heartbreaking 🙁 My heart goes out to them. Well if all else fails we can hope for the PYO flap cats 🙂
September 10, 2007 at 4:29 pm #614064Hooray for PYO flapcats! and OH!!! I love the yawn picture of Grace! SO CUTE! I want to hug them all! *squeezes*
I have birman/manx cross I think, but he’s really strange. Would you believe the mother and father were both black and white?!?!?! He has the cutest little brown patch on his tailless bum and the BIGGEST paws I’ve EVER SEEN on a cat! He has 3 thumbs on each paw. They’re like baseball mitts. Any ideas on what kind of breed he might be related to Ravnheart?
