I stepped way out of my comfort zone for this (99.999% of my poems rhyme). The original plan had been to post it on the 18th as that’s my birthday but some personal complications arose that delayed me doing so (Note: That’s aside from the fact I’ve been constantly tweaking it due to being dissatisfied. I’m still not completely happy with it…I feel like I should do more with it but keeping the syllabic cadences and verb tenses was murdering my brain cells.).
It’s my homage to an oriental dragon (doubly-fitting with the new PYO out this month) as–personally–I’d love a special one (normal, or a special PYO one!) for my collection.

_________________________________________________________Slithering serpentine form parting the grass,
forked tongue flitting against the air
silvered eyes gleaming.Cobalt and ebony shimmering brightly,
sunlight dappling ev’ry scale,
through the trees twining.Gnarled antlers twisting skyward amidst branches,
hazy smoke swirling, rising from
nostrils unfurling.Whiskers curling, fetid scent upon the breeze;
sharpened talons marring the earth,
unease abiding.Shadows trembling among cerise and ochre,
leaves drifting listless; unbroken
silence pervading.Abruptly shattering, eerie howls keening;
swiftly turning to espy two
creatures emerging.Brindled fur bristling, shades of sable and ash;
snarling fangs of ivory cast,
contentions growling.Sinuous body arching, tail lashing fast,
jaws gaping, flames flaring within
defiance roaring.The tableau frozen, nary a breath or twitch;
slit eyes glaring, betwixt the beasts
tensions still coiling.A yip echoing through the woods, querrying;
muscles shaken free, relaxing,
hackles lowering.Whip-like tails wagging farewells, furred ones depart
as shadows within the dark growth,
essence vanishing.A moment’s pause swaying to and fro, then gone;
glistening sapphire, flashing jet,
journey resuming.September 21, 2016 at 1:19 pm #1502245Love it, great job!

And to think I never really liked poetry until I came here. I believe I even tried it once. 😉September 25, 2016 at 8:58 pm #1503403That was fantastic.
And to think I never really liked poetry until I came here. I believe I even tried it once.It’s never too late to be a Bard! The next year term will start enrolling in November, claim your month and wow your fellow Bards with your profusely pleasing poems.
September 26, 2016 at 3:32 pm #1503563And Lupuslunae brings home the bardic school pitch with a bit of appealing alliteration! Serious, though, it’s never too late to put pen to paper and fiddle with wordplay. One of the best things about poetry is that it’s very open to creativity and self-expression; you can write any way you like, in any style, in any format (some poets love making word clusters into specific shapes as a part of their creative design) and don’t have to worry about ‘doing it incorrectly’. It can be frustrating at times…but what crafting hobby isn’t?
Thanks for the compliments everyone! Your kind words give me a warm fuzzy feeling; it makes me happy to see you guys liked it. 🙂
