Just got my VF Fledgie last night. He’s definitely got quite a bit of blue on him π― . Will post pics as soon as I get the link in my email. Kinda looks like he’s flaming blue flames π
Though I am curious, what color of blue is that? It’s such a neat shade of blue!It is a dry pearl pigment that we don’t normally use for anything.. I rubbed it on with a little water. I was experimenting.

Oooooh, nifty! It makes him look like he’s charging up to do something! π It was a bit of a surprise, considering I was unpacking him at 1:30am when I got home from work.
EDIT: Link to photos of my little fledgie π

NOW I understand EXACTLY what I’m seeing in those photos!! It’s not antique at all. That makes them even COOLER. I am actually doing the same thing with the mica powders right now. I find that I make a mess with water, and it doesn’t ‘stick’ as well to the scales. What I’ve been doing is brushing a clear acrylic medium on (GAC 100 polymer) which is just the clear acrylic binding agent. I let it dry till it’s just a tiny bit tacky then rub the powder on gently. It sticks and doesn’t ‘wash’ back off as I paint more layers on. It takes along time but looks really cool. It’s like leafing and finger painting combined. It takes longer than just painting the scales but the effect is different than you can get with paints.

…I’m confused! Wouldn’t this be antiquing WITH the powdered pigment?? Doesn’t antiquing refer to the method of application, not the material used? Because it sure as heck looks like antiquing to me!

You’re right- I just meant that I thought it was a paint based antique. π Windstone usually uses a stain to antique with. I got excited about the powder that I should have thought more carefully about my wording!

My art: featherdust.comAugust 14, 2007 at 7:59 am #605494The blue as an antique looks really good…its just that when it’s non-uniformly on the orange and gold scales, it looks out of place…
Nam, are you using the mica paints to paint a critter or a 2d painting?

Both! π
As for the 2D paintings, here is one that I used them on (different angles to show the ‘flash’ of color):http://featherdust.critter.net/temp/gentle%20giant.jpg
