I figured I would post this as a general question because I’m not sure if I’m the only one having this issue or not.. but lately when I’ve ordered a few PYO’s they have arrived with eyes that I can only describe as “scratched”.
They aren’t actually scratched themselves, the clear edge of the lens looks fine and the color backing is intact, but within the actual eye appears a mark that looks like a floating scratch in the eye. Now, in general I would just ignore a defect like that and turn the eye so the defect is underneath the lid of the piece and virtually unnoticeable, but the last 2 pairs of eyes I’ve gotten have had defects big enough that I’m not sure I can use the eyes. The ones I got today were metallic medium blue, and the only pair I have, so it makes the defect all the more prominent.
Has anyone else gotten eyes that have noticeable defects in them, or do I just have bad luck (I am guessing I just have bad luck, it’s been happening to me lately ><)? I hate to ask for a replacement but I feel like for the most recent ones I should.. I love this color but I just couldn't use it in a piece without it being pretty noticeable.

I've contacted Susie about it and was sent replacement eyes. At the time, she said they had temporary people in the eye department that didn't know how to spot all flaws.June 2, 2011 at 2:10 am #847016Oh! That may be the case then, maybe they have someone new working in the eye department? Thanks for the info Kujacker!

The eyes for the Paint Your Owns are hand made glass eyes, hand painted, and often have imperfections, some of which can only be seen from a particular direction and are easy to miss. Sometimes I’m the guy who picks them out, and I could have easily missed something. I will try to get a better look at them from now on, and will let the others know too. If you think that the eyes are getting scratched from the way that we have packed them, please let us know right away. Thanks!
June 2, 2011 at 9:56 am #847036Thanks Susie! I will email you.
They really don’t appear to be damaged at all from packaging – I can take a picture of the two that I have that have the scratches if you’d like – they appear to be inside the eye, so it probably happened when they were getting made.

I had a moment of anguish :O wondering just how many bad eyes we have! …until I realized I was just seeing the reflection of the overhead light! 😉 But it is possible for them to actually have a flaw… A scratch in the painted side of the eye would not show up until after it’s been painted. But watch out for light reflections! 😀
June 3, 2011 at 2:39 pm #847210I hate the ones that have a paint bleed or a bubble going from the pupil and into the iris. Anyone ever get those?

June 11, 2011 at 12:58 am #847887Gah! Have you glued them in yet Kujacker?
Susie sent me replacement eyes and I got them within a few days of me emailing her about them.

June 11, 2011 at 2:58 am #847898Phew!! I’d definitely email Susie then and I’m sure she will send you out a pair right away 🙂
I think since they know about this issue now Susie is watching all of the outgoing eyes like a hawk XD

I wonder how it gets in there? The worst I ever had was a tiny ‘dent’ in the side of the eye, but that was easily hidden by positioning the eye so that side was under the lid.
Also, I like that sparkly dragon. >.> @ Kujacker
