Halflingers can’t be palomino. If you breed two Halflingers, you get a foal with the same coloring. If they were Palomino, you would get a cremello foal.
Arabs do not carry the creame gene that gives you palomino and buckskins. They do carry chestnut that looks a lot like palomino. Genetic testing confirms chestnut.Beautiful painting!
December 27, 2006 at 10:16 pm #520111I wonder if anyone will ever be able to breed palominos…it seems to be so elusive…

they are a very wanted color….but usually never get a pure palomino….we registered them as dun…or red dun….because of dorsal strips or other variations in the color….and people would be so mad because they wanted their papers to say palomino….and it just wasn’t going to happen
December 27, 2006 at 10:26 pm #520113With all the genetic tinkering going on these days, they’ll probably pin the gene down eventually….or else they’ll just clone one over and over and over again…

oh they already have it all mapped out….last I heard they weren’t going to register cremello’s and purlino’s because they were considered genetic junk….then they did start because the guy that was doing the colors kept getting death threats from horse owners wanting to register those colors….
another reason I’m happy I don’t work there anymore….most horse owners are just psychotic…
December 27, 2006 at 10:29 pm #520116I bet the dog show world is just as bad….

oh yeah we had some double registered thoroughbred’s….but quarterhorse racing i think is about the worst…
December 27, 2006 at 10:36 pm #520121double registered?

they can be registered as a quarterhorse if I think the mother was a quarterhorse….and one of the grandparents….or some such crap like that….I don’t remember all of it….
but they have to be DNA tested to prove parentage…
