If anyone else comes upon a tight eye socket issue, it would be helpful to us if you could look at the bottom of the figurine and give us the date and initials there – that will help us prevent further problems. Thanks.

Gah! I’m sorry, I just covered up the bottom of the one I had issues with with the felt pad earlier today >< I'll let you know if it happens again. Thanks again Susie!

We thought we had solved the tight eye socket problem, however it has not gone away altogether. All of the glass eyes are not exactly the same size, and all of the eye sockets are not exactly the same size, making it possible for you to have difficulty with the Metallic Teal, Metallic Periwinkle, and Medium Blue eyes fitting into the PYO #X550 Dragon and #X925 Ki-rin. Before you begin painting, you might want to try the eyes out in your PYO to make sure they fit, and when painting take care to keep paint thin inside the socket and on eyelid edges so as not to make the socket even smaller. You may expand the eye socket by scraping it out a little to allow the eye to fit better. If you have eyes that do not fit, we will be glad to send you a new thinner pair in a different color. We are attempting to have some thinner eyes available in the colors mentioned, however we haven’t got them yet. And if you are ordering one of the three problem colors, you can order a second color of eyes as a fall back color in case your first choice does not fit. Please contact me if you are having a horrible time with them. We apologize for this inconvenience.

After taking a look at the eye socket it does look like there’s too much “stone” where it should be empty. It’s a matter of a few milimeters, but the eyes fit so perfectly in these that just a little bit has a giant effect. Has anyone else ever run into this before?

My boyfriend suggested trying to scrape out a bit of the excess, but my initial thought was that would break the entire piece, and I’d rather have an eye set a little funny than a broken dragon. Still, I don’t want to have a funky eyed dragon either 🙁

            Any suggestions?
Do you have a Dremel tool? If you do, there are all sorts of attachments for finishing, that work fabulously. I have yet to start work on my young dragon PYO, but If I have the same socket issue, I will share my experiences. The Mineral stone material that the PYO’s are cast in can be worked quite easily with Dremels, and other handheld rotary tools. If you have to manually scrape and shape make sure your hand tools are strong enough. Even so, it is wise to use separate tools for this instead of the same tools used for clay sculpture. Why?…because the mineral stone will indeed dull your tools. [/b]

Also….( shameless plug insert… 😉 ) If you order my hand cast eyes from me, they may fit better because I cast from the same exact glass eyes Windstone uses. And once I level, smooth, and finish them out, they are between .5mm and .75mms smaller than the original master. Hence they should set much easier.

Yeah, I have an eyeless dragon at the moment; waiting for her new eyes since the metallic teal wouldn’t fit. I had two dragons, two sets of teal eyes and only one fit. But all will be just fine because Susie and the people of Windstone just plain Rock!!!

I’ve made a ‘sticky’ at the top of this forum in regards to this issue. 🙂
