Pam, you and Melody are both right. Clay or epoxy are still used, it’s not old fashioned at all. Clay is used to re-sculpt and form the parts of the face that need to be removed in the preservation stage. π

I was considering getting some to make my own eyes – but I’m not sure what kind of paints to use that would be color-fast and archival. On a side-note, it would be cool to see if Windstone decides to offer the metallic eyes for the PYOs. Love ro see gold, copper and silver eyes offered π .Those eyes should be very similar to the ones we use, however I can’t guarantee that another type of glass eye will fit the sockets of a pyo. The eye sockets are shaped to fit the kind of eyes we use.

The ones I have used so far are. The only problem I have come across is the size may be off by a tiny bit. I used a pair on the PYO unicorn, which is 6mm. They were only a teeny tiny bit smaller from what I could see even though it was supposedly a 6mm pair. Other than that they seem fine. As long they are flat-backed. I’d prefer to use Windstone eyes exclusively. But even with the current large selection of eye colors, I still wouldn’t mind a few more color options π³ . That’s part of the reason why I have used other eyes in the past.May 20, 2010 at 12:52 am #811136Just a ‘buyer beware’ sort of thing– if you get an eye that is slightly too big or the wrong shape stuck, be very gentle. I’ve broken the faces off of PYOs before, accidentally getting a loose eye stuck.

I’ve done this to – a few times π³ ….
May 20, 2010 at 7:36 pm #811138A page or two ago I said that the phoenix had 10mm eyes. I was wrong!! I just took one to put an eye in and it does actually have 6mm, same as the unicorns. A 6mm looks way bigger in a phoenix that the uni, I bet because the uni has a big head compared to the eyes, and the phoenix is opposite.
May 21, 2010 at 3:19 am #811139Dunno if this has been asked already( I’m sure it has π³ ) – but what is the ETA on the PYO phoenix?
May 21, 2010 at 3:39 am #811140(Call me lazy… π³ But I really don’t want to go back through 7 pages of replies.)
Um…Is there anywhere it says measurements of this guy? Like a height would be enough to get an idea of the size. π πMay 21, 2010 at 12:08 pm #811141You can kinda guess his size from the size of his eyes (which Pam said were the same as the uni’s). That’s why I was like :0 earlier when she said they were 10mm. π That would have made him pretty big! My guess is he’s about 6 inches tall. 6.6

PLEASE more colors of eyes for these guys!!! squeek*If I did a fiery one, I’d give him blue eyes. π Doesn’t the phoenix have blue eyes in the story? Or did I make that up? D:
Did anyone ever see that Sesame Street movie where Big Bird goes to China and he and these little kids search for the phoenix? I thought that was the best when I was a kid. π
