          Thanks bodine,

It’s difficult for me to understand why people live close to the mighty oceans – since I’m an inlander, I think I fear it more. I expect one day for it to reach me………

Prayers sent to those on the Right Coast!!!

Dear Poems,I am glad you have not been in the middle of something like that and don’t forget the tornados in hurricanes too.It is very scary. We had no vehicle at the time Hurr.Katrina hit us to be able to leave and I lived right by a river. The eye went over a small coast town named Waveland,Ms.It lost 90% of the town’s structures, gone. It and the neighbor town of Bay St.Louis were wiped out. They had to combine their school systems for the kids to be able to attend school,it is now named Bay Waveland Schools. We got the worse side of that storm, the east side,I am blessed to be here, some were not so lucky.Talk about the destruction of unstoppable water.I live here on the coast because my husband likes it here with his job.He loves building those huge homes and he makes decent money, not so easy in other places. There has been lots of work since the hurricane washed most things away but economics has hit this market extremely hard too so we shall see if I get my way by next year and get us back to the hills, any hills as long as there is work around. That is what keeps us here.A lot of people love the Oceans, the temperature for sure, the life style etc.It has a flavor all it’s own. This has hooked my husband’s heart too.I grew up in N.O. area, all day-all night never stops…had enough of that,I prefer hill country.Listening to the birds, squirrels, fresh air and the skies are amazing at night. It feels you can touch the stars 🙂
People in that area of Hurr.Earl, please listen, don’t risk staying close to that water if you can,get out.It has no mercy 👿
Our hearts and prayers are with you  Good luck.

I have lived through three hurricanes since moving to Florida but it seems no matter what part of the country you live in Mother Nature can do her damage – CA has earthquakes and other parts of the USA has tornados, mudslides, floods, etc. At least with a hurricane you usually have at least five days warning to prepare with tornados maybe five minutes if you are lucky – I grew up in Kansas City, MO and saw what damage a tornado can do in a few seconds. When I lived in Roswell, GA (just north of Atlanta) occasionally there was snow and ice storms and in that part of the country it is a disaster.

That’s true.I don’t remember how many I have lived through but I do know to keep an eye on the waters for half of my life.I lived in the Ark. hills for a few years too and one year I saw some of the most spectacular sunrises reflecting off the ice so heavy on the trees they fell and broke. It caused many, many power outages, lots of wrecks and stranded folks.Hurricanes are a fact of life for most coastlines but it still is something to run away from.At least you have a couple of days, most of the time.I saw the mudslide that took out a semi on the news,it would have buried a small car like mine.Mud like that can sure make for a bad day. I am happy the hurricane just swiped everybody and blew itself out.Very fortunate 😀
