The post office sucks. Sorry about your dragon, WC.

thanks 🙂
uhm, not really. Scalon is untill today my biggest dragon and most detailed one. Next closest are:
http://cathuman.com/artnew/renewcat.jpg (old quality, was made in a bigger rush than scalon)
and sunsoul and soulmoon (http://cathuman.com/newart/kissing.jpg ) though those are papier mache and not sculpey.
I dont really do them anymore unless they are on commission. Size and postage and price are just to much.I’ve had many other cases where my sculptures broke. Including a centaur that arrived with a huuuuge dent in the side.
And if you think flatart has a safer travel:
I sent a painting to Australia in a really thick and safe cardboard envelope. With “no bend no tear” all in red over it. It was all fine until some friggin postman decided it was cool to fold the thing to get it to fit in the customers mailbox. Sometimes I wonder if barbed wire and landmines would be the answer to all prayers of a desperate shipping artist…December 14, 2006 at 12:59 pm #516002That’s awful. The thing makes a thousand miles unharmed and gets mushed in the last 30cm.

I had something like that happen to me when I ordered a double-matted print from an artist. I contacted her about it and she sent me a replacement (an artist’s proof even) and didn’t ask for the other back. She used a different shipping method the second time and it arrived fine. Now she only offers to ship that way.

December 15, 2006 at 8:21 am #516005WOW, WindstoneCollector. That’s what I should have done-at least about bringing the dragon home with me. I plan to call them every single day, twice a day on some days, to check up on it. Maybe they’ll start listening to me just to get me to shut up. If the lines weren’t so long and if the insurance lady had been there when I went, I would have made her look at it right then anyway. Come to think of it, I think I’m going to go try and take him back home tomorrow. If they break him further, oh boy. More money is coming out of someone’s pocket other than my own.
The mail man that delivers my mail is really nice and friendly, but its the ones that work AT the POS I MEAN…..PO…..
Akeyla-oh my! That’s terrible! I can’t imagine having to talk to two differnet countries, trying to get someone to fork over $500. 😯 I wouldn’t have thought you could get so much for personal art work. How did you prove his value above the $150 in materials he cost?
December 17, 2006 at 4:31 pm #516006I still haven’t heard anything back, but I guess from the sounds of things I was lucky to take him home. Well, poop on them if they don’t pay, but I’m still keeping him!!! 😆 NA NA 😛
December 17, 2006 at 8:56 pm #516007I just got notified that the PO is going to pay my insurance claim on the peacock oriental! Yes! But the check is being sent separately – I hope they send it to me and not the seller. The PO has messed up so many things for me that until the check actually arrives I won’t believe it.
December 17, 2006 at 9:08 pm #516008I heard that!! 😆

I guess I was just very lukcy, and my boyfriend and Dad helped to hack em, cause they saw it was one of my biggest works to date. I value my work differently sometimes, I would have given up after the first complaint.
But I did have enough proves eventually, I also told them that if they could find something of a same size/detail in plastic, mass produced we could talk it over. Then still I could say “handmade one of a kind” and add 3 more zeros. And I had auctions and sales to prove, that if you remove the random markets fluctuations and personal taste, calculating on a scale of time and size I could have easyly charged something over a grand (I then told them I gave em 50% off due to age of the figure, it was back then almost 2 years old, my “oldies” are cheaper)
Mainly it also meant something to me to see if I could stand up as a hobby freelancer and fight for my work, hard headed like those office donkeys could insist on refusing their fault. Like a first step from “that random thing you did infront of TV” to something for sale. ANd the realisation for me that its not random clay mutilation what I do but a valuable product in the eyes of customers.
I wont do sizies again for international shipping though… never ever again such paperfighty. my head still hurts 😉March 13, 2007 at 2:45 pm #516010Talk about dragging a thread back into the light of day. I ended up using the money I bid on whipput’s repainted pegasus for a $120 BIN white mother and white young unicorn. Mom made it fine. The young however I’ll let the photos speak for themselves.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b235/pegasi1978/windstone/white_young_1.jpgI contacted the seller because I paid $20 in shipping plus insurance and on the box it says $10. I asked if it would be possible to get a partial refund becayse “I would like to keep both pieces so would it be possible to get a partial refund since one of them did arrive damaged, especially since I paid twice the actual amount used for shipping.”
Her response was “Thank you for letting me know. They where packed to specification on my end. They did have insurance on them so I guess you need to contact the post office on your end to get it taken care of. Please keep ALL bubble wrap and popcorn and box so they can see how it was packed. As you can see they where packaged VERY well. Thanks again for letting me know and I am sorry the postel people screwed up.”
Only thing is there was still room for more packing peanuts and I did ask when I payed that they be double boxed (didn’t happen). I guess I need to bring that back up to her to see if she says anything else.
I know I can fix the unicorn with some glue and all that will be missing is a tiny chip that doesn’t appear to be in the box. I just don’t want to lose the young unicorn to a garbage can since they are getting harder to find.
What to do, what to do?
March 13, 2007 at 2:54 pm #516011If it’s fixable, I’d fix it. That’s why I only take insurance if the seller insists. If it’s a regular production piece, fine, I can get another one, but if it’s retired, then I know I’d rather have a fixed piece than give it back to the post office and have them throw it away. I was lucky with my green male, the seller gave me back some money, so the price ended up being decent for a damaged piece.

http://www.sarahjestin.com/feedbacklists.htmMarch 13, 2007 at 2:57 pm #516012See I was hoping she would do that as well. I’ve also got to figure out what sort of feedback to leave.
The last time I got a Windstone damaged in the mail (my black uni male) the seller was so apologetic he wanted to let me keep it and get all my money back. I didn’t feel right about that so I think we halved it.
March 13, 2007 at 3:00 pm #516013Unfortunately, all sellers are not equal 🙂 I’d try a second time for a partial refund, explaining she didn’t pack as you requested, then if she still says no, you have to decide how much of your time and effort it’s worth. Good luck!
