So I took my Emperor back to claim insurance money on him…and after standing in line (well, not too long) and creeping out the lady in front of me by standing there with a rainbow dragon wrapped in a towel (she finally asked me about it after sneaking glances for 10 minutes) and dealing with the lazy postal workers who would rather gossip and take a lunch break than deal with people…..the lady that does the claims wasn’t there. I LEFT my dragon in the hands of people who don’t know what he is (A Windstone!) and don’t care. I’m so scared they’ll break him further 😥
I called yesterday, no news. Called today, no news, except that they dont handle items of that high value there, but rather in St.Louis. It might be a MONTH before I even hear anything from St.Louis, and who knows when I’ll ever see my money back. I brought up the fact that the box was dropped, as one corner of it is smooshed and torn. She says “Well, all our packages are thrown and dropped” I said “…well…that’s why I bought the INSURANCE!” He made it from the factory in that box to the store (probably UPS) and look what happens to him when the postal workers get their hands on him.
I’m worried they’re going to deny my claim. The corner he sits in by my bed was so empty and not colorful. Please tell me some good insurance-claim stories that have a positive ending…
I know this was discussed in another topic but I couldn’t find it.
December 12, 2006 at 6:10 pm #488968December 12, 2006 at 6:16 pm #515972Ack…I dont have any good stories. I still have not received my check for the white mom I bought. Arlla filed a claim on the peacock mom I sent her a while back, but I dont know if she has heard anything. I have not. Have you, Arlla?
December 12, 2006 at 6:17 pm #515973*comfs* Goodluck with that, the post office is sometimes really freaky like that :/ I’m always marking up my packages as “DO NOT BEND” and “FRAGILE” and “THIS SIDE UP” out of paranoia! LOL Throwing boxes?? That ain’t right at all! I doubt they do that for everything because some things are simply too heavy to just toss and catch, the weirdos.
I’m currently trying to track a christmas present i bought my dad but the usps.com website only seems to know where it was dropped off, not where it is now! LOL useless! Sorry, i know that’s not a good ending story like you want but it’s funny to me LOL
December 12, 2006 at 6:21 pm #515974I hope you took pictures of the broken emperor and the packaging so you have proof just in case. Actually with USPS, I have had to send back a couple of things to the seller before they would give me my money back. I was scared that the seller would rip me off. I was glad that they were honest enough to give me the money back.
December 12, 2006 at 6:27 pm #515975I have made a claim at the post office for a green mother dragon that came stuck between two bath towels! needless to say her wings were dust. It took a little over a month but I did recieve a full refund, so hard as it is you must be patient.
December 12, 2006 at 6:31 pm #515976I hope all goes well, Wolfen.
December 12, 2006 at 7:36 pm #515977that really sucks. I wish they could just own up to their mistakes. We should refuse to pay the next postage raise until they give us the service we are paying for
December 12, 2006 at 8:31 pm #515978I hope everything goes smoothly and you get all of your money back. But reading your post makes me even more convinced to stick with UPS — they didn’t give me any trouble the one time that I had a claim (damaged painting that cost ~2k) and I got reimbursed in ~2 weeks.
December 12, 2006 at 8:46 pm #515979I have had two claims with the UPSP. One item never arrived and the seller took care of the claim and refunded my money. The second item arrived damaged and I was refunded after the seller sent me proof of insurance and I made a claim. I had one claim with UPS. They came and picked up the box and item. They refunded my money, but it was heartbreaking because it was a Michael Whalen Guardian of the Fortess Chess Set. I hope somebody at UPS kept it and tried to fix it or something. I don’t like to think of it in a dump somewhere. 😥
December 12, 2006 at 8:46 pm #515980I have no good post office stories either. At least not with insurance claims. I’ve been screwed many times to the point I don’t even bother insuring anymore. Sorry 🙁

I LOVE that chess set. I have a pewter chess set that is Gold VS. Silver. The gold is gold plated of course. It’s AWESOME. It has a glass board with Black and Gold foil art squares. The Rooks are actual Castles, the Knights and Women riding Griffins, the Bishops are large Wizards holding crystal balls and carrying a walking stick, the King looks like a furious Merlin holding a lightning bolt in one hand and an eagle on the other and my favorite is the Queen she looks like Medusa she is holding her crystal ball in one hand over her head and is pointing in front of her with the other hand she also has a large female cat behind her. The pawns in silver are little wizards with eagles and walking sticks and the gold pawns look like little orinetal women each holding a crytal ball. It is truly AWESOME. In 1989 this set cost me $650 for the pieces and board the Michael Whelan origanly was $1200 and the lowest I have seen it offered for was $600
December 12, 2006 at 11:16 pm #515982Honestly I don’t bother with insurance at all anymore, unless a buyer/customer insists.
It’s just pointless to me. I’ve gotten things broken, and it’s easier to fix them up, or resell them for less than it is to get money out of the postal system.
December 12, 2006 at 11:29 pm #515983I’m still waiting to hear about my oriental dragon claim. I was told the same thing about the claim going to St. Louis or somewhere and that it would take a month or more. The frustrating thing was when I went down they said I just needed a copy of the insurance receipt and the package and when I went back I also needed proof of value (my credit card receipt or a copy of the page off ebay). Which was a huge pain since I don’t always get lunch in order to run errands. Plus the PO I use is in Plainfield, NJ which, trust me, is not the safest place in the world. And then they took the dragon *sniff* but at least the person I was talking to the last time was really nice. She looked in the box and was horrified at the carnage – she loved the dragon and went on and on about what a shame it was the dragon was destroyed. So at least one person at that PO has taste! 😆
December 12, 2006 at 11:36 pm #515984Was this the dragon I sent you??
