I have never organized a raffle before, and I need to do this for my hubby. He won the Rusty Emperor Dragon a few months ago, and he decided to possibly raffle it off so that we can try to gain enough funds for me to go to the Chiropractor. I have been living with this horrible pain in my neck and upper back for almost my whole life. I went to the Chiropractor today and found out what is going on with my body. It turns out that they can help me-it will take about 6 months-but they can stop some degeneration in my vertebrae, they can make my neck curve the right way (It is almost in a reversed position), they can help my body to not be so crooked (one side is higher than the other by an inch), and they can help me feel so much more better(there was a lot, I don’t remember all of it) . I am only 24, and at this rate, I will end up in a wheelchair if I don’t do something about this horrible pain. It is only getting worse as I get older, and this pain is so excruciating. I cannot exercise at a stronger rate than a walk, I cannot sit or stand comfortably, I have to stretch and crack my back all the time, and I cannot wear any restricting clothes (like a bra) otherwise it hurts like hell. (I wear one anyway when I am out of the house, and so it hurts all the time even more)It will cost 2600 dollars, and that includes my insurance. The thing is, I have no idea if the Rusty Emperor raffle would even come close to funding this. I am not taking this lightly because this is so important to me, and my husband has even offered up his only Windstone sculpt to try to make this happen for me and my health. He said I have to do this, because he has no idea how, and he is gone working a lot. So—-How do I do this? Does anybody know what different outlets I could use to get people interested in this raffle? Do you think it is plausible to get 2600 dollars from this raffle? I have no idea! I know others have done raffles on here before. HELP! 🙂 🙂 🙂

I wanted to add that we did just get our taxes back, and we would use it for that (we WERE going to use it to fix one room of our house) but just this last week, we now have something wrong with our foundation (or roof) that is making water leak into our room. The carpet is moldy, and the bedset is moldy. We now have to use our tax return to pay for that, because otherwise we will have to sleep in the living room all year. So, goodbye my broken (possible) dining room, and hello to fixing this horrible mess instead. You know, all of this crap would be just hunky-dory if someone would just hire me already. I am so sick of this.

Trying to make sense of Iowa laws is tricky at best, but from what I understand, unless you are licensed or are raffling it off at a fair with the tickets costing no more than $1, I think a raffle is illegal in your state. I’m… not fully sure. See here: http://www.gambling-law-us.com/Charitable-Gaming/Iowa/

If it is illegal, unfortunately you can’t hold a raffle here. If you want to do it you will need to host it off-site.

If you did a raffle, how much would you sell each chance for? Even if you sold them at $10 each you’d need at least 260 entries to make your cost. I am not sure we even have that many active members right now.

It might be better just to try and sell it outright, but again I am unsure how much you would get for it right now.

      I wish you the best!

I really hope you can do this, eaglefeather. If you can, I would be more than happy to enter. I understand all to well living with pain on a daily basis. I hope you can get the funds you need to pay for this treatment. You got my best wishes and prayers.

I firmly believe in chiropractic care – but you may want to see if a less expensive one is available. If not, then spend the money, it’s well worth it.

I’d try and sell him outright, though. Auction him off. From what I’ve seen here, when a piece is offered up for sale for a good cause, you end up selling for more than a fair price. It won’t be the 2600, but like Jen said, I’m not sure we’d have enough active members!

          I would enter your raffle.

I would also enter if you could hold the raffle.

And I also believe in chiropractic care. I had scoliosis when I was little, and they straightened me out… so to speak. I was spared surgery and the dreaded body cast and rod in the back. I will say it was TOUGH in the beginning, as my muscles had to be retrained to hold my body right, but I’m SO GLAD my parents chose the chiro option. It’s definitely well worth it. 🙂

I hope you feel better soon. No one should have to live with chronic pain. 🙁

              *hugs*

I would like to enter but im pretty broke 🙁 If having the raffle is illegal in your state couldn’t someone else on here hold the raffle for her and just send her the proceeds?
I fully support chiropractors. I’m only 21 and for the past four or five years i’ve been dealing with pain from hip dysplasia. I used to run cross country and when i went back to run after a break from the season I couldn’t do it anymore due to the pain. An orthopedic surgeon diagnosed me and told me I would have to have x-rays every year to make sure I wasn’t developing arthritis…. He sent me to physical therapy and it did nothing. So for four or five years I was just dealing with the pain (It hurts to run, walk, stand, and sit when its acting up and it is a pain in the you know what (literally) to sit through lectures). So about a two months ago I went to a chiropractor for the first time and she told me what was wrong and fixed me in the first appointment….. I had to go back of course to keep things on track but now I don’t even have to go regularly 😮 It was pretty amazing to me because I was thinking I would need a hip replacement before I was forty. So I can’t recommend them enough.

Your chiropractor does seem pretty pricey though. Mine was only 79 for an evaluation and 30.00 for each additional appointment if you are a student (but i can’t imagine its that much more for a non student). Seems like you should be able to get one cheaper where ever you are at. Have you shopped around?

Good luck I hope you are able to get the treatment. I too believe in chiropractors. A couple of years ago I had a terrible dizzy problem (no comments from you guysj) and my PCP sent me to a neurologist who did several tests and cat scans, had me stop taking the only prescription I was taking and several other things. My PCP also sent me to several other specialists to no avail. Finally in desperation I saw the chiroprator near me and he cleared up the dizziess in 6 visits and I was pretty much OK after the first 2.

Wow, I really do need to see one then., I have a feeling that a lot of my physical problems will be better if I do. It’s too bad I can’t do a raffle, it was my only hope. I was about ready to raffle off my entire Windstone collection if I had to (but I do love them!) KC’s was the only windstone in this house that could have been worth a little more. How do I shop around for Chiropractors? Do they all need to do tests and x-rays on me to know the potential cost? My insurance will only pay for the first 25 visits, and I still have to pay a 60 dollar deductible during the first 25. After that, it is out of pocket. That is probably why it is so much-1500 total, deductible cost for the 25 visits, and then 1100 that would be totally my costs after the first 25. We need better insurance. 🙄
Thank you all for your experiences and your well wishes. I agree that no one should live with chronic pain because it is too much sometimes-of course some days are better than others.

My chiropractor is pretty cheap. I think its only like 45 per visit after the initial diagnostic visit. I only pay 30 per visit because im a student. If you want to check out other chiropractors you should be able to get the records and x-rays released to you from their office and then you can just take them with you for your appointments. Hopefully then you don’t have to take multiple x-rays of the same thing. Hope you can find a cheaper deal! I would think you should be able to. Good luck! It’s definitely worth the effort

Ask people around you to see which chiro they consult and how much it costs. You can also simply call chiros and ask how much they charge too.

The hard part if finding a good one. I did try a few, and the ones using the Thompson method, so with a table with moving parts (that way, they use gravity to adjust you), seem to me to be the most effectives ones. But I’m in Canada, so I’m not sure if the same thing works in the States.

You can still do a raffle if you want– you’ll just need to host it elsewhere and make sure you know any risks involved.
Just make sure you sit down and plan it out well– how much to ask for each ticket, and how many you’ll need to sell. Would it be easier and more profitable to sell things outright? Just food for thought. We all want you to get better. I could use a chiropractor myself but I’m in the same boat you are in! Please feel better.
