His face makes me think of Elijah Wood as Frodo in LOTR. He, the pony, is so cute. You did a beautiful job, Arlla. As always.
January 22, 2007 at 2:17 am #530527Beautiful! And you captured the markings perfectly — I particularly like the way you did the near foreleg.
January 22, 2007 at 3:08 am #530528Wow, how lovely! I think it looks fantastic!
While hiding somewhere in my head I'm on the lookout for white oriental dragons! Please let me know if you know of any available. Thank you!
January 22, 2007 at 3:39 am #530529Oh, beautiful. (I think I say that about everyones, but I really mean it.) I love it. I love the horse as well. Both are very beautiful.
(Why can’t I have a horse too?)January 22, 2007 at 5:53 am #530530Watergazer wrote:Did you dilute with water? Because I’ve had no sucess with that at all and is seems to muck up the scales. You did a truly amazing job on this and the sheen is perfection. They are buggers to antiwue but you did awesome!
Yes, I only ever use water now. I have a WHOLE BUNCH of retarder, and I just can’t work with it. I just can’t. Water gives me trouble sometimes, but I must be getting better with it or something – it worked fantastically well on this one. And I didn’t just use a tiny bit of water, I really did dilute it quite a bit for those scales!
I actually intiqued it with water, too, now that I think about it…I usually do use antiquing medium, but I just used water this time…

Yea, Water, i do the exact same thing actually. I have LOTS of success with water, though as Arlla said it just takes careful practice and alot of trial and error with the exact amount of water to use. If you use too much the paint won’t stick at all or will run. Worse, if it dries with too much water it may crack. Though I haven’t had it happen yet. If you just lightly touch the very tip of your brush to the water I usually get a good amount. If you end up with too much you can just dab it a bit in a paper towel and try again.
Also, if you antique afterward you have to be very careful. The paint is a bit more fragile and will sometimes rub off to the bare sculpt again if you wipe away too harshly.

January 22, 2007 at 5:32 pm #530538Nice job. I espically like the tail. I was wondering why you didn’t put white spots on the belly.

LOL Because it’s REALLY HARD for me to put markings on the smooth scales! I did the best I could with the star on his chest, and even that looks crummy to me… I opted for prettier rather than more acurate – but it is entirely due to my inadequacies.
