oog, if that’s why they sell out so quickly with multiples than that just hurts my chances all the more, I try to get just one of something and hell I’ve missed out on several things lately…le sigh….
4 things I'm looking for:
1. Mother Meerkat
2. production color Sitting Young Oriental dragons to be made in more colors besides VF, Brimstone would be awesome!
3. Female Griffin – Siamese with White
4. September Raffle Prize 2022 AHD Male GriffinSeptember 2, 2011 at 2:41 am #855012I love you, everyone at Windstone <3

Haha! Even when we squabble a little over our toys, they still love us. 😉 I do love this company.
September 2, 2011 at 3:03 am #855015I find it funny lots of these “situations” never happen with pieces that aren’t “grab bag/ooak style store products” I’m sure the same thing happened with the Young Unicorns which is why some particular people have like 6…10…20 (and those were just random numbers I picked so don’t get all riled up) Nothing was ever mentioned before “Oh well, oops, didn’t I mention, my significant other is a collector too” until Windstone made an announcement to play fair.
Yeah. :/ Of course, maybe they had no need to mention it till the announcement was made. But, it doesn’t change the fact that one is still upping one’s chances of getting the piece they want, by having multiples sent to the same household.
Let’s say my sister liked the Unis too, and ordered a set for herself. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that I’ve now doubled my and her chances of getting the special baby we each had our eye on. Especially if we have different tastes. We would have still played by the rules, but I have to admit that living in the same house would give us an advantage.
As it stands though, she only likes the dinosaurs. 😉
After considering the points everyone has made, I agree with the two per household rule, OR one per order. Both of those limits seem to work a little more fairly for the most people, than the “two per order” IF the goal is giving the most customers a chance at one. As it currently stands, it favors the customer getting the Uni they REALLY want, and having another left over to trade for another one they REALLY want. Not very many people sell their extra Unis to people who didn’t get a chance at one. They trade with other people who already have other GB Unis.
That’s exactly the purpose of these Unis, I know! It’s so awesome. But, even after all these batches, there’s still an imbalance. Some people have multiple Unis, some people (who still really want one) don’t have any. Tightening the rule a little bit from “two per order”, to “two per household” or “one per order”, would give more people a chance at actually purchasing one. That just seems fair to me.
There are some special cases here on the forum where roommies/SOs also want a piece, but the solution that was cited, of calling the store ahead of time, seems like a very fair way to let exceptions be made.
September 2, 2011 at 3:55 am #855026I told Susie today that she’s officially The Destroyer of Baby Unicorn Dreams. 🙂 It’s all good.

LMAO! She needs a sign on her office door that says that now…just for funnsies
September 2, 2011 at 4:25 am #855031As a way around this problem is have people pre order an item and pay for it in full. I’ll use the red panda flap cat as an example since they also seem to have been really popular (and since I am one of the people who didn’t manage to get one! 😉 When Windstone is ready to start making them they post a picture in the store or on the forum and state that on Sept. 2 orders for the flap cats will be accepted for 24 hours (or whatever time period they decide on.) On that day people can order AND PAY FOR however many flap cats they want. Then Windstone has 4 to 6 weeks to deliver the item. The reason for only doing preorders for a limited time is that Melody and the staff will know exactly how many of a limited edition to make and so they don’t end up with several hundred orders.
I realize this is not how Windstone has done business in the past and will totally understand if they think me completely nuts for suggesting it. But I have pre-ordered and pre-paid for art before and had to wait two to three months (and even longer) to get it.
I would think it would be a relatively easy system to implement. They could tell the computer they have an inventory of say 1000 red panda flap cats and then just generate mailing labels and receipts however they do now. One decision would be whether they ship all the items at once or ship them in batches of 10 or 20 as they get done. I think shipping all at once would be best.I’m only suggesting this for limited edition items or items that have proven to be so popular that they sell out in minutes. If there is some reason a large number can’t be made in a timely fashion (such as Melody is the only one that paints them) them they could still do a pre-order but let people know that time frame for delivering will depend on the total number sold. It might be that this system would only work for the larger, more expensive items. And I realize some people won’t want to pay for something they need to wait 6 weeks for. But I think a lot of people would be willing to pre-order Windstones. It would take the stress out of trying to be online at just the right time or of having to haunt the store. Just a thought.
September 2, 2011 at 4:58 am #855033The per customer/per household thing to me… in the end really doesn’t matter. Truth be told, if someone is REALLY that desperate to get more then their fair share then they will just have their friends, neighbors, family living at different address either order them on their behalf or make separate accounts utilizing their address to get around it… or dare I say it, lie to get more by making up a story on why they ordered the way they did to get extras.
I could have my sister who lives in the next apartment order something for me, or my mother on the other side of town and make up some weak story about how they are collectors or were buying me gifts. (like that would ever happen, LOL!) Hey, how about I make another account and have it shipped to my work address. No matter what, there will always be people who break the rules and for shame I say. One way or another though, the fact Windstone even cares enough to put a limit on something AT ALL makes me happy. Afterall, all they are doing is running the possibility of screwing up their own profit by limiting their customers quantity. If Windstone didn’t care about their customers, they would let whoever could pony up the dough buy how ever many they want.
You know these ponies would be selling right now for $100 buy it nows from scalpers and we would be desperate enough to pay it if we had to. I find that (not pointing fingers here, but just mentioning for the sake of argument) so many of us missed out, yet all the “roommates, significant others, husbands, wives, whatever” managed to all get their orders in without missing out in the same short time they were in the store. That combined with the same paypal accounts, shipping addresses… well… something stinks about that in my opinion. Maybe some were honest and had special circumstances, but not all. I highly doubt that is everyone’s situation, but then, I’ve been scammed so many times I tend to think the worst of people sometimes so maybe I’m wrong. I hope that is the case.
Luckily I’m not a huge Unicorn buff or else I might be mad, I’m just pointing out the obvious.

Even 4-6 weeks might not enough time for her to paint all the GB unis needed to fill 24 hours worth of open orders, at least not unless she put off doing everything else, like sculpting, painting ebay items, eating, etc.
September 2, 2011 at 5:09 am #855035What? Melody eats! She has no time for that! XD

Oh, hahaha! Poor Melody.
Dragon, I kind of feel the same way you do. A handful of people will always be clever and try to get around whatever rules are imposed. It can be frustrating for the rest of us who respect, not push, the playground rules.
The limit is a great idea and allows more people a chance, but it’s a new system and as it gets used quirks are bound to be noticed, loopholes discovered. I think based off of the existing imbalance between ‘haves and have-nots’, and the discussion here, the limit needs to be slightly tighter, or an army of finished Unis needs to appear by magic on the factory shelves overnight. 😀
September 2, 2011 at 5:20 am #855037I can’t help it– I have to offer my two cents as a Windstone employee about the pre-ordering concept. No hard feelings (I know how awesome it would be if we could make it work, after all), but to give you an idea… I am the only person in our packing/eyeball department right now. Susie has been doing the bulk of our shipping AND taking care of all her ordinary book-keeping and customer service duties. The way we are set up, it would be almost impossible for us to run a pre-order service smoothly and without mishap, even though this process sounds very stream-lined. I know it would be wonderful if we were able to offer this service to you guys, but at the moment (and in the foreseeable future) it would be very, very difficult. At least as I understand it.
Also, from a personal perspective, I want my mom to be able to work on her own artwork again someday. 😉
However, with this in mind, please continue to brainstorm about any ideas at all, including pre-ordering. We are always open to new methods.
Responding to this thread at large, I would just like to reinforce what Pam and Susie have said about this post being directed at the general populace rather than a specific person. Otherwise, it would not have been posted to the forum at all! 🙂 Perhaps it would have been easier if Susie just said, “Big Brother is watching you”… and left it at that. 😉 (Disclaimer: Big Brother is not, in fact, watching you.)
For the record, if it was up to me, I would happily do nothing but put eyeballs in Grab Bag Unis. They are my favorite. And I am sick of dragons… they like to get in fights with each other.
September 2, 2011 at 7:28 am #855044No hard feelings at all. I knew there were probably good reasons you weren’t already doing something similar but, to date, it is the only idea I had about the limit situation. I figured I would mention it and if nothing else it might give someone else a better idea.

But this wouldn’t be fair to people that don’t have Paypal or people that can’t send instant payments. My paypal account got hacked a couple of months ago, and it’s still a mess…I’ve been calling every day to both their customer service and my bank to get things straightened out and I’m still having problems. So I can only send e-checks right now, which take about a week to process. Or if I didn’t have a paypal account at all, but I have the money and need to send a money order, do I get left out of the pre-order??
September 2, 2011 at 8:17 pm #855101I don’t think it is probably going to happen anyway so I wouldn’t worry too much about it. I’m sure they would work out any kinks like that if a pre order system was even implimented.
