I’m not actually in Atlanta, though I may as well be (I’m about 45 miles from downtown). The traffic here has grown so much just in the last 1.5 years I’ve lived here it’s getting ridiculous. I’ve watched as a rural area where we live has very, very quickly been bulldozed and all around new housing communities and strip malls have popped up. I’m not joking when I say that I’ve seen at least 40 housing developments go up, ranging from perhaps 20 acres, to hundreds each! It’s actually really depressing. We call it “Atlanta cancer”.
I lived in Houston before this and though the development was bad, it didn’t seem this bad. Houston just seemed a lot dirtier… perhaps I just didn’t notice the development because it was already so crowded and undesirable to me. 😉 Here in GA at least, before they bulldozed it all down, there was a lot of forest and wildlife that I miss!
Yeah, it’s a real shame how much land and trees are being ripped out for new housing and businesses here. More housing means more people, and more people means more traffic. It’s just getting too crowded here. My husband is already thinking about moving again… and we’ve only been here 2 years. The funny thing is… he doesn’t have to drive in it as much as I do since he works from home. I gotta drive in it every day… so he has no clue. And he wonders why I come home miserable most of the time! 🙄
September 26, 2007 at 5:13 pm #612384Amarillo is growing too. Five O’ clock traffic here is a small pain in the butt but not TOO bad. I call our down town “little New York” because of the way some people drive it! LOL.
But they are not taking down any forest since most of the trees around here are Elm trees that people have planted and well, they took over. Its pretty flat around here though. Just farm land and grazing land here. With some prairie dog towns inbetween. But 20 min away is Palo Duro Canyon… it is very pretty there! We hope to move sometime in the future… I guess we’ll see what happens.September 26, 2007 at 5:38 pm #612385lamortefille wrote:frozendragon wrote:Serenity wrote:Yeah… I know! lol
Did you move here or born and raised?
moved here…from New Jersey…
no matter how long you live here…if you weren’t born here…things just don’t make sense
Now that’s saying something! You think living in NJ would have taught you about weird… 😯 😆
pfft…take NJ weird and multiply it a few times…then you can get an idea what some of the “normal” people are like here…. 😯

September 26, 2007 at 7:00 pm #612387Yeah? You wanna hear weird?
In St. Cloud here there is a guy that dresses up like Superman and stands on the corner by the Dairy Queen and waves a flag. Dairy Queen has a restraining order against him, but it doesn’t stop him any. The cops are tired of arresting him, so they’ve stopped unless he starts causing traffic problems.
Then there’s a guy that drives around a big lime green cadillac covered (and I mean covered) in religious bumper stickers — mostly the same one. I think they’re what’s keeping his rusty old car together. Then there’s some writing about Jesus on the side of the car too. He rolls the windows down and plays Christian music really loudly.
There are more, too, but those are the ones I see the most. This town only has about 58,000 people, so there’s some weird ratios in this place with zany people.
September 26, 2007 at 7:38 pm #612388😆 Those are good examples, Em! Anybody have more?
One weird thing we have around here is a guy that hires himself out to drum up business for local stores. He dresses up in a clown outfit, waves a long feather duster and honks one of those old fashioned horns to get your attention. He’s just plain creepy. 🙄
September 26, 2007 at 8:15 pm #612389Just clowns in general are creepy!!!

I agree!
September 26, 2007 at 9:36 pm #612391define freaks frozen…
do you mean the ones that walk around and have dang near everything pierced or tattooed?
Or the honest to God people that need to be locked up walking around… (bag ladies and mentals walking around kicking at dogs that are not really there?)
Or the “gothic” kids walking around trying to be “one of a kind” even though all their friends also dress that way?
Or just Stanly Marsh… the weirdest of them all? Putting up pointless signs all over the city, putting WEIRD stuff on cars/trucks…(a fox and a chicken is one of them…on the roof…a stuffed chicken and fox….) 😯

hmm there are a bunch of those but they don’t bother me too much…although there are some that are kind of scary
Or the honest to God people that need to be locked up walking around… (bag ladies and mentals walking around kicking at dogs that are not really there?)
ok yeah those scare me….there’s one that walks around the college…there’s also that guy that was in the military and had some kind of brain damage and thinks he’s a woman now….he walks by the college and rides the bus….carrying a big pink feathery purse and wearing 10lbs of granny jewelry
Or the “gothic” kids walking around trying to be “one of a kind” even though all their friends also dress that way?
that doesn’t bother me in the least….what bothers me is the rich kid that can drive over the top of a goth kid…then back over him…and only get probation..(which he of course violated)Or just Stanly Marsh… the weirdest of them all? yeah he still is the top weirdo…I used to work in the Chase building where he has offices…and OMG got stuck in the elevator with him….he smells EEWWWWY….
and yeah the signs and the fox and chicken and many other things….like kidnapping that Whittenberg kid way back when

Now when it comes to “laws” around here, they are not weird, they just PLAIN SUCK! Get a speeding ticket and not pay it, goto jail, kill someone and get a slap on the hand. WHAT IS UP WITH THAT??? That was so wrong! 🙁
September 27, 2007 at 1:45 am #612395oh yeah….and there’s the noise ordinance….that they don’t enforce….that’s so annoying when the little freaks drive down the road and stuff falls off the walls from their stupid radios…
blah…but heaven forbid you stand outside after dark at your own house talking to friends….the cops have to check all of your Id’s…
September 27, 2007 at 2:16 am #612396Oh yeah! We have at least 3 of those on the block, and what kills me is that they come home and park it and PLAY that freakin music for like 10 minutes BEFORE they go in…. the whole time baseing their music like they think that we ALL wanna hear that stuff… 😡 And its past MIDNIGHT!
I have lost all faith in the APD. My sister in laws boyfriends shop got broken into, when the police showed up to take a statement all he did was yell at her for wasteing his time…September 27, 2007 at 5:21 am #612397Serenity wrote:Oh yeah!
