Mine was Dawn. Its a pic of my husband PMCSing his HMMWV one morning before going to work. I just thought it came out so pretty.
I like it and voted for it as well. It really struck a chord in me since my husband will be leaving shortly for his deployment. He came home with his orders this week. They’ve already packed the B and C bags into the milvan and railloaded the vehichles. We go on leave this weekend for two weeks to visit family and friends.
March 29, 2007 at 1:10 pm #556201Sorry to hear that Peg. I hope you have a beautiful weekend together.
March 29, 2007 at 1:15 pm #556202Thanks. We both are getting a little weary of traveling. We’ve been doing it every three- and four-day weekend he has gotten since he came home from Iraq last time (Jan. 06), but it’s so much easier (right now) for us to go visit family than having them come visit us. We will be hitting his parents in Florida first, then mine in Alabama, then head up to the DC area to see his best friend.
March 29, 2007 at 1:18 pm #556203Have a safe trip!!!
March 29, 2007 at 1:22 pm #556204Thanks. 😀 I just hope my car survives. The last time we tried to visit his friend in the DC area (a few months ago) the transmission went out in his car while we were on the way to our house for the night before making the long drive.
I don’t expect any problems though. When I had my oil changed earlier this month I asked my mechanic to do a “safety inspection”. I got everything they recommended done so for right now it has a “clean bill of health,” not bad for a 2001 with 75,000 miles.
March 29, 2007 at 5:02 pm #556205Have a safe, fun trip. 😀

Im sorry to hear that. If it makes you feel better, Congress is trying to pass a funding bill that will have all the GIs home by early 2008.
March 30, 2007 at 6:12 am #556207I hope everything turns out for the best

Won’t make much of a difference any way. The earliest they are slated to come home is May 2008. I’m not holding my breath on them getting to come home early. I remember talk about them doing shorter (6-9 months) and more frequent deployments recently and that still hasn’t come about. At least when the deployment is all over my husband will be able to get out of the army and they can’t touch him again because he will have served his 8 years.
March 30, 2007 at 12:01 pm #556209To get this back on topic who took the picture of the rose and the polar bears? I loved those as well. The rose one reminded me of some photos I took when I was in a photography class in college. I had some extra black and white film left towards the end of the quarter so I went around shooting different things. I too several rose pictures. I had so much fun developing the film and printing the pictures my self. I need to find those again.
March 30, 2007 at 2:08 pm #556210I dunno, but its cute. There were so many good ones it was hard to decide! I liked the duck, the marshlands, the kitty eyes… which are really weird. Everyone did a great job.
March 30, 2007 at 3:07 pm #556211Yep!!! All the photographers did a great job!!!! Thank you everyone!!!! 😀
April 1, 2007 at 3:00 am #556212Mine was the mallard. I was up for a day trip in Berchtesgaden, Bavaria, on a side trip from Salzburg in January 2005 before Epiphany. Berchtesgaden (for those who haven’t heard of it) is a little alpine village best known for Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest (it’s where he used to vacation) and the water is absolutely pure and pristine to drink! The morning had been pretty cloudy and a few of us didn’t feel like taking the boat ride (we were trying to save on money) and opted to wander around. I was trying out some settings on my camera (which I hadn’t had for more than a week or two). I was playing with the water, outdoor, and snow settings. The sun finally came out around 11am or noon and I was trying to take some pictures of the mallards and a few other ducks congregating around a covered foot bridge. This was one of the pictures I managed to snap before this little guy decided to swim off (I didn’t have any food for him). With the water so clean and with the lighting on his feathers, I thought the color came out pretty nicely. It was either this guy, snow leopard I snapped yawning a white wolf from 10 feet away, or a pic of Prague Castle around Sunrise from Karlovy Most (Charles Bridge). My family thought the color on the duck with the water worked best and wasn’t as busy as the others, so I went with this guy.
Camera is a Canon Powershot A75 zoomed in. I know they have newer ones out.
Congrats to Nambroth! I was guessing it was either doctored, a filter or one darn lucky shot! Those are the best! 😀 This was fun!

The polar bears came from Watergazer, and the rose came from purplecat.
April 10, 2007 at 5:07 am #556214I really liked the polar bears a lot. The basic image was great, but I think the lightmeter got overloaded by the white fur against the darker background. Of course it was action so speed was needed, not like you could call that moment up at will. I almost went for it,( being a registered animal rights freak and tree hugger.)
All in all I liked the shots in the contest, I could do something with most of them, gallery wise.
But first;…I have to work really hard , to pay the TAXMAN. -
