Hey Melody, Pam said I have to ask you here to get your attention –
How come you changed the crest on the phoenix from the way it was on the grey prototype you painted?
June 2, 2010 at 1:29 am #500928June 2, 2010 at 2:16 am #816574The colors on the eBay Phoenix are stunning 😀 …. but I definitely like the way the crest was done on the gray Phoenix better. Much, much better. 😮 Puleaze ……. do the production PYO with the first crest. squeek* squeek* squeek*
June 2, 2010 at 2:25 am #816575*cough* I must be an oddball…I like the shorter one better. But, both are awesome in my opinion…I’d be happy either way. 🙂
June 2, 2010 at 3:04 am #816576Quoted from the blog when she posted the grey pheonix:
“I sculpted the topknot on this phoenix out of epoxy clay because this version still had a hole to glue on a pewter crest. I am going to just sculpt a crest onto the master instead so that we don’t have to fool around with a separate pewter piece. We have enough problems!”June 2, 2010 at 3:40 am #816577kitsunelady wrote:Hey Melody, Pam said I have to ask you here to get your attention –
How come you changed the crest on the phoenix from the way it was on the grey prototype you painted? Each of the three phoenixes I have painted so far are out of the first original mold. This version had a socket on its head where I planned to glue a pewter crest into. I decided with all our other problems, we couldn’t deal with casting a crest and gluing it on, so I changed the sculpture to have a cast-on crest. The three prototypes I have painted each have slightly different crests because they were hand sculpted out of epoxy clay.

I didn’t make the production one’s crest exactly like the grey one because it was a little too long to cast without breaking, but I think it is similar in shape. I need to check.. I don’t remember what it looked like.

Not sure if it was the different crest, but he also looked kinda…angry. If there’s a happy medium between the flame one’s crest and the one on the grey phoenix (since that one is too long to cast easily), that’s fine by me. >.>

Three? Has a picture of the third been posted anywhere yet? I have only seen the gray and the one that just sold on eBay.

I’ve only seen two. 🙂 Hopefully the third pops up soon!

Well, I got a good look at the phoenix master tonight and the crest IS NOT the same as the ebay one! It’s a lot like the original crest, but fatter, and it runs into the back of the neck so there isn’t any gap. I think it looks very lovely! That sounds good! 🙂 Are we going to get a sneak peak? squeek* squeek*

I suspect it will be for sale sooner or later? 😀
June 2, 2010 at 10:59 pm #816584I’m sort of indifferent on the crest. I’m just happy the Phoenix will be out 🙂
I guess if I had to pick between the two I’ve seen, I like the crest on the grey one from the blog

The gray one looks weird and off (it looks like he has spikes coming out of his head). The ebay phoenix’s crest looks more sleek and natural. Either way, neither of these crests are going to be on the master, so in the end it doesn’t much matter. What the final cast crest looks like is what matters. If only we knew what it looked like lol.
June 3, 2010 at 2:39 am #816586I just happy that we may have a new PYO in the store. I kinda liked the ebay crest better myself, but I don’t really care what is finally derided. I just want to paint them!
