August 14, 2007 at 1:18 pm #607736I know that Nirvana’s busy and not feeling so well, and I know that Cheryl’s all right, but I wish the others would stop in and say hi.

It’s called Peacock ore (or peacock copper) which refers to the minerals Bornite or Chalcopyrite. 🙂Isn’t that stuff neat? I work at a geology museum here in SD and we used to have lots of really nice, vibrant pieces in our gift shop. Unfortunately they all sold in a matter of weeks! We still have little glass bottles full of small pieces, and of course some darn pretty chunks on exhibit display. Makes me wonder what other color patterns could be inspired by minerals…. (wishes she had more PYOs!)
Forever seeking: Blackwatch the raffle Old Warrior, Jennifer Miller's pieces, and GB Baby unis!

Nice deal! It looks lovely. 🙂
August 14, 2007 at 5:23 pm #607740How much would that have gone for regulary? Congrats purplecat.
August 14, 2007 at 5:46 pm #607741I don’t know. I’ve never seen a piece that large before. Usually you just find little chunks and they usually cost $15-25 depending on the color quality…I’m pretty pleased with the find!
August 14, 2007 at 5:51 pm #607742So what rocks do you need in your collection or that you already have?
August 14, 2007 at 6:20 pm #607743I have a large amethyst crystal chunk that’s nearly the same height as my male dragon….I’ve got smaller pieces of malachite, unpolished ammonites in matrix, citrine, agate, moss agate, a large tabular piece of flourite, geode….I’ve actually got several agate specimens…a split and polished 4 inch black moroccan ammonite with chamber crystals…um, there’s probably more but my mind just blanked…
August 14, 2007 at 6:24 pm #607744Oh, I just got peacock ore off ebay (duh…). THe pieces I’m looking for are labrodite, rose quartz, smoky quartz, lapis, a large citrine cave, an amethyst cave with deep crystal color and good clarity, I’d love a large boulder opal specimen. I have some small pendant pieces but a large display piece would be awesome…I also need a light version ammonite and I’d like an opalized ammonite for my collection too. I have a fascination with ammonites, they are my favorites in my collection. 😀 I also have several pieces that I really have no clue as to what they may be…other than freaky looking rocks. 😀
August 14, 2007 at 6:36 pm #607745Wow, all of those sound awesome. I will have to look up the names of each one, but I love rocks… I think it is because of my Jr.High teacher. He was a awesome teacher and everyone liked him.
August 14, 2007 at 6:39 pm #607746That is a beautiful specimen, purplecat! I have one, but it’s not nearly as pretty as yours.
August 14, 2007 at 6:42 pm #607747I’ll see if I can’t get some pics later…my girls just woke up so naptime’s over 😆 I love my collection because I find it amazing that such beauty is just simply created in the earth, hidden in the dark until we unearth it. In today’s society we get so used to looking at human-created beauty I think we lose sight of the natural at times…it also fascinates me that the earth even preserves beauty that existed so long ago, the world wouldn’t quite be the same if we couldn’t imagine dinosaurs or other creatures that once were. 😀
August 14, 2007 at 6:44 pm #607748Awesome. I would love to see a picture. Yes, I am also amazed at how nature can create beautiful peices of art. That is one of the reason I like Moab.
