“Olimpia has signed the felt pad with “Twilight #4″”
???? Twilight #4?
So Olimpia can put anything on there and call it “Sighned”?
I would think sighned means your name.
June 17, 2008 at 1:49 am #714145Twilight is the color scheme. Olimpia is Windstone’s head painter. If you looked at the picture of the bottom of that piece, you can see that she signed her name, and also put ‘Twilight #4’, since it is in the Twilight color, and the fourth one she painted.
Edit: Whoops, there isn’t a picture of the bottom of this one. π But I’m sure her name is there, too.
June 17, 2008 at 2:49 am #714146Yes. The secret keepers sold on ebay by Windstone have either been:
1) One of a kind (ooak)
2) limited edition (limited to a set # of pieces and signed… will say the total # in the auction in that color scheme that will be auctioned). ex. 1 of 24 (the sunrise lap dragons currently up would be an example of that, or the white secret keepers that were put on ebay by windstone last year – there were on 10 and will only ever be 10 in that color scheme.)3) Artist edition pieces (limited to a small number in an open ended amount, but up to the whim of the artist painting them for windstone… ex. Olimpia Carapia is Windstone’s head painter and if she is painting one, she will sign the piece with her signature, the color scheme, and the # it is. There could be 1 done by an artist in that color scheme, there could be 15. It’s limited to what the artist feels like doing, how well that color scheme sells and the any other number of factors into why Windstone Editions decides to do what they do. π
The twilight secret keepers are “Artist Editions” painted, numbered, and signed by Olimpia (she has a gallery off the main windstone site of pieces that have been put on ebay, painted by her – http://www.windstoneeditions.com/eBay%20galleries.htm)
Quote:MELODY’S DESCRIPTION
This is a Secret Keeper painted in a color called “Twilight” by our head painter Olimpia Carapia.
This dragon is painted in shades of blue, from very light blue on her breast scales to very deep purpleish blue. This paint also has glittery flecks of metallic silver on the surface.
Her horns and details are painted with metallic gold paint. She has been antiqued with great care so that every scale is defined with a dark edge. Her eyes have a mirror-like dichroic backing that changes color with the light. They have an overall fiery orange color and have black pupils. She holds a light blue Swarovski crystal jewel in her raised paw along with all of your secrets. This is a big dragon! She is 17-1/2″ tall and 12″ wide. Olimpia has signed the felt pad with “Twilight #4” and it comes with a hangtag and a letter of authenticity.
Some day we hope to make this dragon sculpture hollow, but this Secret Keeper is a solid 32 pounds of solid dragon! She weighs 38 pounds to ship. Please check shipping costs to your area before bidding. We won’t charge any more than we have to for shipping…but she is heavy!
June 17, 2008 at 3:44 am #714147I went to the Melody Pena galary.
I have the OW in Peacock.
Not signed.
Did she paint it?

πIf it is a regular production piece (ie. you bought it in a store or a seller from ebay) and it has no signature on the bottom, it was painted by one of the painters at the factory, but not necessarily by Olimpia herself. Peacock Old Warriors are retired.

πThe peacock old warriors referred to in Melody’s ebay gallery are prototype old warriors. There are sculpting differences from the regular production old warriors that also came in peacock.
Quote:This design was the way I originally sculpted it. His chest and rear end have much more battle damage than our present version. I removed most of these claw and pock marks from the final version because we were afraid folks would think that this was shipping damage or casting imperfections. The way his head and wing touch was also changed in the later version. We found that the castings often cracked at this joint.
I don’t own one of the peacock prototypes so I can’t say if they were signed or not.

Oh yeah. Those in the gallery (ok, it’s late and I should be packing up to go home for the night :P). I think mine is. I’d have to check when I get home (he’s in his box until I can get moved up to the new room). I have an Emerald Prototype OW. It came with a COA and I believe is signed. Easiest way to tell if what you have is a prototype or regular production is if the back of the neck and wing touch. The production ow have a small gap because it caused less breaking in the castings this way. The prototypes are very early castings (and have other differences as well), but the wing/neck thing is the easiest way to tell.
June 17, 2008 at 4:56 am #714151Yes, my ow has a gap between the neck and wings.
Not a proto I would guess.June 17, 2008 at 2:13 pm #714152msdunaway wrote:Yes, my ow has a gap between the neck and wings.
Not a proto I would guess.Unless you bought it off of one of Windstone’s official eBay auctions, then no, you have a regular production Peacock Old Warrior and Melody did not sign it.
The signed ones were a limited edition of signed and numbered prototype old warriors auctioned only on eBay. I think the average selling price was around $900.I hope this helps:
All Regular Production Windstones (these are the ones you can find in stores, and online stores) are not hand-signed by the painter or Melody. When Windstone produces their normal production statues, they are cast and then production painters paint them. There really is no knowing who painted your piece if it is regular production. All Limited Edition pieces are hand signed by the painter on the bottom. Limited Edition pieces can only be purchased through Windstone’s official eBay auctions (or from a collector wishing to sell their piece). Limited Edition pieces are limited, signed and numbered. After they are all sold, no more will be made of that particular color/sculpt combo. They tend to sell for a higher price than normal production Windstones.
Artist’s Editions are sort of like limited editions. They are special painted pieces that take forever to do and thus cannot be offered in large quantities. Sometimes there is only one of a given piece, sometimes a few, depending on if the artist wants to paint more than one. Currently the Windstone artists are Melody, Olympia, Myself, and I think Arlla/Helen in the future. We paint the piece, sign it, and it is then offered through Windstone’s eBay auctions.
Here is an example of some of the special pieces that have been sold: http://ravnheart.com/windstone/
Finally, we come to Limited Production. These are pieces that Windstone produces in very limited quantities. Why? Mostly because these are the oddball pieces that probably would not sell very well in retail locations across the globe. But Windstone still wants to offer them to collectors that want the pieces, so they make limited batches. With exception to the very first limited production pieces, they are not signed by the artist.
