I’m not sure if I ever mentioned this, but I just graduated from McMaster University this spring and I got a degree in Fine Art and Multimedia. For the multimedia part, I had to come up with a senior thesis project. After talking to a lot of people in my art program and due to some interesting experiences we had trying to get a modest multimedia lab going for the fine art people, I decided to make my thesis a website dedicated to teaching artists about multimedia. My fine art university experience showed me that there was a definite lack of connection being encouraged between multimedia students and art students. The trick was – how to create a website that doesn’t go a mile a minute teaching about digital cameras, scanners and software without feeling like I was “talking down” to people who were probably smarter than me! LOL
So I decided, why not make it possible for artists to talk to other artists? Instead of me trying to write all the tutorials I thought should be included, why not make a website where everyone could contribute? Thus I decided to set up a wiki, which is the same software that powers Wikipedia, and then the only tutorials I would personally need to write was to teach everyone else how to write a basic tutorial!
To that end, this is my pride and joy – the Paint to Pixel Studio

I tried to create a user-friendly space where artists could meet and share advice and tips about computer/technology in terms of how you use it to promote your art and sell your art. Right now, the only thing keeping this project from living up to my dream is that I lack participation. If anyone has any suggestions about how to improve that, or wants to participate themselves on the site, please go ahead! You can edit any part of the site you like, except for the important pages like the home page and the “how to write a tutorial” page – I locked those just to prevent accidental erasing of the pages. Not that it would matter, my wiki can easily restore any page that is accidentally messed up or the text erased, because every editted version of each page is saved 😀
I thought it couldn’t hurt to let you smart people here know about the site and feel free to pass the word on if you know any other artists that would like to help write tutorials. I’m not looking for anything fancy, just written word explanations about the stuff you personally are familiar with. Could be anything – how to use a digital camera to photograph art, how to use a scanner, what’s the best way to get prints made, and so forth 🙂
Thanks for listening to my ramble ^_^

You’re welcome! 😀
If you have a request for a tutorial, if i know about that specific kind of pixel art, I can try my hand at writing it for you ^_^ And if instead you learn elsewhere and get a good handle on it, it would be equally awesome to have you write the tutorial yourself! ^_^

PSP is less expensive than Photoshop but it can still cost a few hundred dollars, last time i checked. I was in a computer store the other day trying to find CorelDraw which was also expensive :/

I’m not sure what you are looking for in an image program but have you ever tried GIMP? It’s a free program that is sort of like Photoshop/PSP-Lite, if you haven’t heard of it, here’s the website with all the info 🙂
November 16, 2006 at 12:28 pm #508894That looks interesting. I’ll download it and give it a try when I get home from the office tonight. Thanks again, Sunhawk.
