I got a baby unicorn that’s needs a little tender-loving-care in the paint department. I want to do a new paintjob, but I’d like to know… for those of you who restore and/or repaint these things… what do you use to remove the original paint?
I use acetone too, just straight pure acetone. An old toothbrush and some Q tips & cotton balls help too. You may also want to wear gloves of some sorta…Watch for the horn, the acetone will remove the paint, and doesn’t be suprised is the eyes come loose to.
White primer people…don’t mess with that paint removal crap…seriously. Save yourself the time, effort, and worry and just use a light coating of white primer.
After enough coats it will, but if the detail is still pretty clear I don’t bother with stripping. Do the next paintjob in very thin coats and only LIGHTLY spray with the primer and you should be just fine….although I have had to strip a couple pyos that I just ended up adding too many layers of paint and lost the sculpt’s clarity…If it’s possible to just prime it I would definately recommend that you do so, stripping off paint is a pain in the butt as the paint tends to refuse to come out of nooks and crannies… 😕
