I’m so sorry to read all this stuff you have to deal with Kyrin. All becuase of that nasty spider! Man, I hate spiders… always have, and always will. I just have the biggest fear of being bitten by one like that. I actually check under the covers of my bed every night before I get in to go to sleep. And, I shake out my shoes every day before putting them on… I really do this every day! I am so afraid of spiders!

I hope you start to feel better soon though. I read in that link that one of the forum members sent about the Hobo Spider that constant ice really helped a patient deal with the pain a lot better. Maybe try keeping ice on it for long periods of time to see if it helps you too.

Well as of tonight, I am now sure that this is going to take weeks to heal, I got my bandage wet and when I changed it, lots more puss erupted, it is still swollen badly and the tissue is black.

There is definately some serious tissue damage, and likely I will have to see a specialist and it will have to be debrided.

I am so upset I’m in tears. I really don’t need this, and I really don’t want to be weeks recovering, with possible long term damage.

I don’t know what to do, but crying seems a good option at the moment.

🙁 Sorry! Crying is a good option …. healthier than trying to hold it in. It sounds so horrible it makes me cringe, but maybe a specialist will be able to say something hopeful, helpful or encouraging. Hang in there.

Update, went to emergency and they reassured me that I was okay, and that my wound is as expected, upped my antibiotics since the culture came back tentatively positive for staph, and said they’ll see me in the morning.

I feel a bit better, they told me I wasn’t silly to come in, that this is serious and if i am worried, by all means come on in and have them check it.

They are so nice, scary thing is I am getting to know folks by their first names down there.

*BIG HUGS* Don’t worry about feeling bad for going to get it checked out often. That’s a serious wound and it’s got a lot of healing to do. It’s a great sign that they are really willing to have to drop by and around too worried about you coming often. Cry if you need to and don’t feel bad for doing it. A hobo spider is serious.

Take care of yourself and your hand. Hang in there!

      A further update from today.

Wound is looking better, swelling has gone down considerably, and the redness is only extending to a little past my thumb joint. Pain is reduced quite a bit as well, and they are having me change my bandages now.

I see a doctor on Tues, rather than keep visiting the ER, which is good. I’m tired of the ER, but when you need daily care on the weekend, that is your only choice.

They upped my oral antibiotic, and stopped the IV one. So that is good.

Overall I am feeling a bit more optimistic that this will heal quickly and not do too much permanent damage to my hand. Doctor told me it will probably take about 2 weeks to be fully recovered though. So that’s gonna hurt in the paycheck department.

Meanwhile, last week we got a Toyota 4Runner for a steal, and all that is wrong with it is that the numbnuts who rebuilt the heads didn’t adjust the lifters, and that requires shims, so we will be ordering the correct shims tomorrow and with luck by next weekend I will have a shiney new vehicle to drive! It’s not really new, but considering my old car blew up in Jan. and I haven’t had my own car since, I am still estatic.

We did good too, got the 4Runner for $1500, and only had to put in about $400 in a new radiator, the shims, various belts and oil change stuff to get it running right. With all the features this truck has, it is worth $3000, so we did really good.

Glad to hear things appear to be moving in the right direction. 🙂

Well it sounds like positive things are happening anyway. 😀

Yay! Airbrush & a new truck! Add a couple of new windstones and you’ll be grinnin’ ’til the pain is all gone. 😉

Yeah, just got a roaring sentinel and hyena gargolyes for $95 and that included shipping, because both were broken. But not badly, once I am done you will never ever know. Yay for eBay and asking questions.

So now I’m cured…just need the hand to know that. LOL!

I’m so glad that you’re feeling better. 😀 Abscesses are kind of gross, but that old “better out than in” really applies to them. Also–I don’t know if this helps to know, or if it’s TMI–once an abscess forms, it means that the body has consolidated all the inflamed nastiness and put it in one place so it can bust out and be gotten rid of. So it’s kind of a good thing. In a way. It just hurts like a blankety-blank. 😯

Hope the healing goes quickly and smoothly for you from here!

Hope you are feeling better… So they think it was a staff infec. and not spiders?

I’ve never heard of a hobo spider either. They look almost identical to brown recluse. To the untrained eye, harmless (and quite common) grass spiders can look very much like hobo or recluse spiders.
I am a spider lover, sorry guys. I have grass spiders, recluse, and who knows what else running around in my room. On rare occasion, I have woke up to a recluse crawling accross me. It’s scary, but so far, I have never been bit. I love them, as they keep the general insect population down. I can stand the spiders, but I don’t care for the bettles and bugs that get in. Since I stopped killing recluse, I have almost no free ranging insects in my room!

They think it could be a combination of spider bite with a secondary staph infection on top of it.

I don’t really have any big issues with spiders, however, if there are ones within my home that are capable of doing this kind of tissue damage and harm, I don’t want them in the house. I especially don’t want them possibly harming my children.

Saw the doctor today, he thinks it should heal up within a week, so I may be able to return to work by Thurs next week.

Overall it is looking pretty good, definately a lot better than it did on Sat. night.

Thanks for all the encouragement guys, it really helps.
