Okay, so I guess I’m a little slow to notice things sometimes…. 😳 Back when the special “magic” painted red fire OW’s were being auctioned, I managed to snag one. Around about the same time, I also bought a peacock OW from another forum member. I was looking at them both the other day, and I noticed that the hole in the wing on the peacock goes all the way through and you can see daylight and/or the other wing, depending on the angle you look from. On the special painted one, the hole does NOT go all the way through; up near the rib of the wing, it has a smooth spot that has a bump in it, and it’s solid, so you can’t see through it. At the bottom of the wing hole, you *can* see the pebbled texture of the body. So my question is, what the heck is it? 😕 An “oops” in the mold? I’ve been looking at photos of OW’s, and I haven’t seen any others that are like mine.

Does anybody else have an OW that the wing hole doesn’t go all the way through? Here are 2 shots….assuming the link works.

My ruby’s goes all the way thru, and it looks larger. I think maybe it just might be differences in the molds. 😕

I’m not following on that one; what would be different about the molds? yesh, I’m having one of those slow days….

The hole on my Peacock OW is also bigger and goes all the way through:

Sorry about the bad lighting… the red you see though the hole is the back of my bookcase…

Maybe yours was a fault when they removed it from the mold??

That’s an ‘oopsie’. Castings have ‘fill ins’ like that with nodules in tight spots (inside the tucked legs of the grand unicorn for example) where a mold must separate and get knocked out and sanded down afterwards. Looks like someone forgot to do that before it got painted!

          Thanks.
I figured it probably was an “oopsie”. 😀 Now for the next $64.00 question: does that affect the value of the piece?

          #763079

Err probably not. It’s not very aesthetically pleasing and all old warriors had them at one time. If it were something like goofed eye colors then it would be.

Actually, I was more afraid that would adversely affect the value. 😀
          But thanks!

Because it’s special edition I wouldn’t worry

When did all OW’s have them? You mean when they are fresh out of the mold?

            Yeah that’s right.
