February 10, 2010 at 3:19 am #805775A little bragging about me boyoh Sean. For the last tri-mester of the school year, Sean signed up for the musical theatre class. They will be performing “High School Musical” The students all had to go through an audition process which most have never done before; so you can imagine that the tension was rather high… Ms. Kim had the kids up on the stage to see how they moved (dance wise) Some of ’em did really well, most did not. Sean had been at the back of the stage because of his height (he’s now 6 feet tall) but couldn’t see the steps that were being demonstrated. He had also stayed home from school that day ’cause he was really sick but was having a flaming hissy fit that if he didn’t go for auditions he’d be cut from the class. Packed him up took over to the school for auditions and bombed on the movement portion. Melt down insude on stage complete with tears and all. I hauled him off stage and tryed to help calm him down. How in the world was he going to do his recitation and sing? So we sat through most of the auditions until he has feeling calmer, Ms. Kim called him to the stage to audition. He announced his name, the title of his song “The Star Spangled Banner” and his recital piece He started with the National Anthem. It took several minuets for him to remember the opening music and lyrics but the cute kids that had already auditioned started hummimg the openbars the “The Star Spangled Banner”. “Oh, yeah” he said “Thanks” and sang his song croaky voice and all including hitting the high note that I can’t ever get. Today results for parts were posted and Sean landed the part of Chad, which I guess in one of the major parts. Needless to say, he’s on Cloud Nine and his self esteem hit the roof. He also ran in the last cross country meet of the season in nasty wind, sleet, hail and snow and took home a trophy for most improved new runner for the season. The high school coaches are definately eyeing him for varsity team for his freshman year.
I was so very proud of him for working through his fears (tears, hyperventllation, the works) to get back up on that stage and go through with the audition, especially when so many people (myself included) would’ve just turned tail and run. How was I so lucky to get such exceptional children? It certainly wasn’t much on my part – they just sorta came that way… Thanks for letting me brag a bit more about Sean. I know it was terribly difficult for him to do since he is my child that is utterly mortified if he thinks he’s made a fool of himself in front of people that he doesn’t know; it’s hard enough for him to goof of with his friends… So Roddy and I are utterly proud of him that he worked his way through the stage fright and fears and didn’t give up. Good on ya, Sean! Ya done a fair dinkum job and mum and papa are waayyyy proud of you!!!
Lurvs ya lots!

As someone who has done community theater for a long time I know how trying the audition process can be. I have found, for myself at least, that a little bit of butterflies in the tummy is a good thing. The times I have had no nerves at all I bombed and did not do well. Auditions are never fun but they will never be quite that hard again.
Well done!

I’m confused though I thought your sons where already in High School? you said eyeing him for Freshman and Varsity??
when I was in CC yes 20+ years ago there was Frosh/Soph and Varsity
Varsity was Juniors and Seniors and the REALLY good lower classmen
Just a confusion moment on my part maybe your school has different grades than mine had?
OPPPS I looked at it again and you said they are eyeing him for varsity in his freshman year but I thought your sons where already in HS??February 22, 2010 at 3:46 am #805785Coming into this a bit late…… 😳
Sean, this is for you: The Star Spangled Banner is one of THE most difficult songs to sing. So you get extra credit for even *trying*, and more points for getting through it!
As someone who performs on stage on a regular basis (2 different band gigs just this weekend.) I can tell you this with a sure conviction–we are the hardest critics out there. We consistently are harder on ourselves than any other people. So KUDOS to you, kiddo, and keep up the great work!!! 😀February 23, 2010 at 6:52 pm #805786That`s great! I can imagine he must have felt proud afterwards. I remember myself as a child before going on the stage to perform a song I made myself at a talentshow at school. I was so nervous, but when I got up there I did well and I also won the song contest. I remember how amazing it felt. Things like that normally do, especially for a child or a teenager. I guess he doesn`t regret it 🙂
March 9, 2010 at 9:00 am #805787Wow that was quite the feat. He has a lot more courage than I will ever have. You have one cool son.
March 10, 2010 at 1:08 am #805788Thankies, I think so (but really he and his twin came that way. I didn’t have much to do with it 😳 )
