No. 🙁 Poor husband has applied to dozens of jobs and followed up on them- keeps getting told he’s overqualified and such. Ugh!! We have one lead that we are hoping will pan out- I was out hunting with the CEO of the place my husband wants a job at and I didn’t even know it until afterwards! Doh!! *crosses fingers* :/
As soon as we know WHERE he will be working we can try and secure a house.

My art: featherdust.comNovember 27, 2007 at 4:17 pm #635838Ugh. I hate the “over qualified” line. If someone is qualified to do a job well and has no issues with the pay, then it should be their problem if they are over-qualified, not the employers. Ah well. Hopefully it’ll all work out great.
November 27, 2007 at 4:24 pm #635839I hate the “over qualified” bit, as well. 👿 Anyway, I hope the job lead works out for him. (keeps fingers crossed)

November 28, 2007 at 1:17 am #635841What kind of work does your husband do? If it’s computer related, I know of a few places near the Catskills or in the Albany area with openings.

It’s computer related. Currently he runs all the computer support for 5 hospital’s pharmacies, but he’s a jack of all trades. Unfortunately the Catskills/Albany is a little too far from our reach. We’ve got about a 100 mile radius around Jamestown, NY. :/

My art: featherdust.comNovember 28, 2007 at 8:36 pm #635843Are there any colleges near where you want to move? My sister does computer support for a college in Maine and likes it. And one of the benefits is free college tuition for their kids (just in case there are going to be little Nams running around at some point). So he might try the colleges.
November 29, 2007 at 12:52 am #635844Ewwww, little Nams!! 😆 No children for me. But, we have looked into the colleges in the area. There were no openings but he left a resume just in case.

Hmmm… not a huge area for computers (unless you get up closer to Buffalo/Hamburg or closer to Erie, PA), though I’m sure there is stuff around. Fredonia has SUNY Fredonia. I’ll poke around and see what I can find. I know GE has a Rail site out in Erie, but I’m not sure if they have any IT openings (the Schenectady plant is hiring like 500 new engineers! and I know my company – I’m on contract to GE – has some openings, though I don’t know if any are on contract to the Erie plant). I’ll check around and see what I can find 😛 Doesn’t hurt to try for the State Civil Service IT exam (literally, you just answer a VERY long questionnaire for the IT exam) to see if they have any openings, particularly in Buffalo. I can provide a link if needed.
You’re soooooo close to Chautauqua!!!! I love it there in the summer! Chautauqua “butterflies” (bats.. hehe)
November 29, 2007 at 3:36 am #635846If we can’t find -anything- IT related in a reasonable time, may I contact you? We are just trying to stay close to my folks is all 🙂 He’s applied to dozens of jobs in the Western NY area, there are more than I thought but he dug deep. Any leads would be great. There is one good possiblity for him right now but we won’t know for a while. :/
