November 10, 2007 at 10:39 pm #635793Good luck and have a safe trip – by the way where are you moving?
November 11, 2007 at 5:23 pm #63579418 hours of driving later, my husband, myself, 5 parrots, and 10 fish have made it. I’ll be a bit scarce still but I’ll be here off and on to help and do my normal duties. If anyone needs anything urgently please feel free to email me, nambroth@gmail.com

My art: featherdust.comNovember 13, 2007 at 1:33 am #635798I forget about that. Down here practically everything is open on Sunday. I think it’s because this is a tourist area. 😉
November 13, 2007 at 1:56 am #635799And I bet a lot of places weren’t open with today being Veteran’s Day.
November 13, 2007 at 1:58 am #635800Probably not. Although, around here sadly only the banks, government offices and the post office seem to observe it. The schools don’t even close. 🙁

They stopped observing it here when I was 6. They said it’s not supposed to be a holiday. It’s supposed to be a day for remebering. (Like that happens at supermarkets 🙄 , I politely told a customer to be quiet when she wouldn’t. Having family members who have served, I do stop and reflect. I take offence to those that don’t.)
November 13, 2007 at 2:44 am #635802I know what you mean. I think it’s just as important as several of the other holidays that we observe. And you’re right, I do remember it being a holiday when I was little, but I lived in a different state then and I thought maybe some states observe it while others don’t.
November 13, 2007 at 2:46 am #635803This might sound stupid… but just how do you move fish? And don’t you have BIG tanks?
November 13, 2007 at 2:46 am #635804That’s a good question. 😕
November 13, 2007 at 2:55 am #635805It’s expensive and nerve wracking.
I bought a nice cooler (the plastic kind that are insulated that most people put their drinks in) in a 5 gallon size, then ruined it by cutting a small hole in it for cords. I then got a water heater and filter appropriate for 5 gallons, and spent $40 on an inverter that plugs into the lighter in the car. I put the fish in the cooler along with their filter media so that I can transport not only the fish, but also the bacteria essential to keeping their water chemistry balanced. I broke down the tank, put the plants in a plastic bag, drained and packed everything, drove 18 hours, then set it back up immediately with the fish (after the water got to the correct temperature).
It’s a nightmare! I wouldn’t have done it if my fish weren’t worth so much.
The tank is 55 gallons and weighs about 140 lbs empty… 900+ lbs when full.
