They are being cast now… we finally got a good load of gypsum, so things are getting made.

Soooo… we *might* be able to pull off a general swap before the end of the year, though the safe thing will be to wait until January.

Thank Drag0n for the foo swap – it gave me my fix!

Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

It actually takes several weeks from the time things are cast to when they are ready. 🙂 So if they were just casting them when Melody posted, we’re probably still a little ways out.

I’d LOVE *hint, hint* for John to post a walkthrough on how Windstones get made (timelines and general steps – not the proprietary process). It’s actually rather mind boggling how much work and time goes into each one! 🙂

I can do a complete rundown of the steps sometime but the basic casting process happens fast and they are only in the molds for a half hour or so. It is everything that follows that takes time. The day they are made the castings are cleaned up and any defects dealt with before being racked up to dry. The smallest pieces take a few days to dry and much longer for the largest pieces, some two or three weeks. So the PYO’s… maybe a week to a week and a half. We can’t cast quantities of anything like we used to and getting them scheduled for production is a problem as we are behind on most everything. Sometimes we speed the drying of small quantities in an oven or heated area.

And after they dry they are scraped so they will sit level. Sometimes they also have seams to be sanded (scraping does that too), or bubbles/defects to be fixed… 🙂

After they are scraped, they are dipped to get dust and stuff off (which requires more drying). And then packing I’d assume for PYOs 🙂 For everything else, that would be around the time it heads off to be painted (assuming the painters are working on that sculpt).

…Hey, if you want a blank PYO griffin you can buy them on ebay for $300…. yea… I see one is a soft feather griffin but 10 times the mark up? I don’t really care if the seller wants to ask that, but I just thought the auction was humorous.
