Hi,
I’ve painted several of the Windstone PYOs, and discovered that I have a real passion for this type of thing! I’m really happy with how all of them have turned out. I was wondering if any of you have other sources than Windstone for painting sculptures. Windstone’s runs are so limited that I’m looking for something that will tide me over until the next batch of PYOs become available. Thoughts? Thanks for your time!

The ponies are cheap and fun to paint in my opinion though 😀

May 2, 2010 at 3:24 pm #813435Here is one I am very proud of. Even though, I hadn’t learned the fine art of thinning down the paint yet. 🙄
You can’t see all the colors in the waves because yes, it was taken in my bathroom. 😳
(Yep it is dry brush technique.May 2, 2010 at 4:33 pm #813436Every year Harmoney Kingdom makes a pyo that is given out at thier yearly convention. You can find these on ebay. I’ve painted a few of them myself:

Reaper miniatures are good, and Ral Partha is now Iron Wind Metals.
May 2, 2010 at 6:58 pm #813438Oh yea, I have quite a few ceramics lying around too. My mother was a teacher for over 30 years. I have some bisque you can have if you just want to pay to ship it.
I need to look and see what she has on hand. She’s been retired for years now and we have a storage area with TONS of bisque that just sits and collects dust.

May 9, 2010 at 5:22 am #813440May 9, 2010 at 2:26 pm #813441Well, these aren’t even remotely similar to Windstones, but there are Munnys. I love looking at painted ones on deviant art, although, the original (humanish?) form is still my favorite. Also, there are plastic or resin horses you can paint if you like the equine form. And someone else mentioned pewter miniatures, which, depending on the design, some aren’t to tiny, like some of the dragons and such (Or at least, 10 years ago they had some larger pieces). Still itty bitty details though…
May 9, 2010 at 4:13 pm #813442oh those look fun!!!!

May 12, 2010 at 12:26 am #813444Omg!! I LOVE those pythons!! 😀 So CUTE!!
I don’t have any suggestions, other than maybe combing through Michael’s or JoAnn’s for those little kid sculptures, but hey, it might help with small space details and textures (tiny kitten anyone??)
