January 10, 2010 at 5:15 pm #797202Drache cuts some gorgeous opals. Great craftsmanship, and he’s great to work with and ships fast. I’ll be happy to vouch for him, I’ve got a few of his lovely stones in hand right now to make jewelry with. 🙂

January 14, 2010 at 9:52 pm #797206Question? What are the brilliant blue/green opals? Are they boulder opals? And are they more expensive than other versions? I get absolutely mesmerized by the brilliant blues…….

It depends! Every type of opal can have brilliant blues and greens. The opal type is dependent on the host stone and type of deposit, and where it was mined. This might help! http://www.opalsdownunder.com.au/articles/types.php

The blue green opals are just another colour for opal stones and happen in black opal, crystal, boulder, or white opal. Depending on the backing (potch) and how the colour faces depends on the brilliance. If you have a stone that faces well that is backed by black potch you will get a black gem opal, if you have it backed on a gray or dark gray potch it is still a black opal but the color may not seem as intense. if you have a crystal opal with green and blue, and you put it on a black cloth it will alot of times become more intense vs if you hold it up to the light. It all is dependent on the material you have to work with, right now i have a piece that MAY cut a nice green on black but i have not decided what to do with the stone yet.Drache

February 25, 2010 at 7:51 pm #797212ok just to impart information you do not really need a macro lens, they now have these high definition converter lens that just clips onto your lens fits from 52mm to 67mm sized lenses they are called raynox universal adapters i have the 350 and it cost me $65.00 you will need to use manual focus but its not that difficult to use and your talking about an object so it wont be moving 🙂 they come in a 150,250,350 and a 450 they are really nice and way cheeper than a macro lens 😀
