There seems to be a lot of hardship/sadness on here lately with people having financial problems, losing beloved pets, problems with employers, medical problems and a host of other things. This economy is getting the best of a lot of us and even though some of us may not have that many problems, it still takes it toll.
In July, my coworker is going on vacation for 3 weeks and I was to get a full paycheck while she was gone. They had cut us a day each week to help cut overhead. Well yesterday, my employer informed me that he would like for me to take that nonpay day even while my coworker would be gone. Was looking forward to the extra money but I can see where he is coming from. I see the balance in the checkbook as well–part of my job.
Well I also had problems with my keyboard last night and had to order another one. Damn, what a frustrating experience because I kept getting cut off and the person had to call me back and in the end, the total isn’t what it should be because their system was under going maintenance. I was told to call their customer service to get this taken care of. Their customer service phone number has promts that are lously–it tells you to say your order number and then says it doesn’t understand you and puts you to the very beginning. I finally just emailed them with my concerns.
All this is minor and will take care of itself–the amount in question was just shipping fees that the sales person was trying to waive but couldn’t because of the maintenance going on. This is a Friday night, it’s been hot and it’s going to be hot this weekend with temperatures in triple digits. All in all I got a terrible headache that I still have today. I think it’s just all the frustration of money, things not working right and the toll of all these negative things coming upon us.
So I guess I’m venting in my own way and sharing the anxieties and frustrations with everyone else in this Windstone community. Nothing major or devastating but it makes my day suck nontheless.

June 27, 2009 at 10:43 pm #771939I can’t stand automated tech support; the computer never understands me either! I hope your headache goes away! Does listening to soothing music help?

Usually those automated systems are configured to pass you to a “customer service specialist” – that is, human robot rather than electronic robot – if you keep repeating nonsense words. “I’m sorry, I still didn’t quite catch that. Let me connect you with someone who can help.”
And if you are lucky, the operator speaks with an accent that doesn’t sound as unintelligible to you as yours did to the machine.
However, if you are not clear enough with your mispronunciations, the machine may just pick an option that sounds about right and run with it.
I was needing a confirmation of auto insurance faxing to the shop doing my Oil Change & State Inspection. So I called my insurance company and said as much to the machine, and it seemed to understand, but ended the conversation with: “And your replacement documents have been mailed to you and should arrive in the next few days”. I called back and tried to go through the options again, and when it got to the “Fax or mail documents” part I thought we were getting there, but the machine quickly reprimanded me for trying to get additional documents mailed to me within 24 hours of a previous request.
Fortunately on the next attempt I was able to gobbledy-gook the machine into handing me over to a real lady who totally understood what I was wanting and had the Fax sent right away.
I was embarrassed to have to call back a few minutes later to tell them the Inspection place had given me the wrong Fax number and could they send it again. But at least I knew how to get to a real person this time.
And, sure enough, a week later I got a package of replacement documents in the mail.
June 30, 2009 at 7:10 pm #771941Yes, you have to be careful with how much gobbledy-gook you speak into one of these systems, because if it sounds close to English or Spanish, the machine will choose for you. I haven’t had to use that tactic yet; what I did do was the machine didn’t give me the option to speak with a live operator, so after it told me the prompts to choose from, I just pressed 0 (even though it wasn’t a choice). They transfered me to an operator! Sneaky!
July 1, 2009 at 1:09 am #771942Well the problems I has having with these prompts is that it kept putting me to the beginning of the menu! I was so burned out that I sent an email. But I did call the next day and got a live person–seems there was a mix up in communication on what items where being charged shipping. No big deal but I was tired of being cut off, of getting different order numbers every time this woman opened her mouth and also getting different amounts. They sent me an email to rate them–boy am I going to have fun! 👿
