No way am I going to click on any of those. Poor Jen is going to have to start policing who gets to be a member on this forum. Pity that some people have to ruin it for everyone.

August 25, 2010 at 12:25 am #825031We’re working on a solution for this… which, unfortunately, is more complicated than I thought. Thanks for your patience while we work on this issue. π

Spammers can be a real pain the rear! While moderating for another site, we seriously had to lay the smack down. My memory’s a little foggy, but it went something like this. There was a 24 hour wait before a new member’s account could be activated, and then they had to email to activate it. They couldn’t post pics at first (like here)… but then they also couldn’t link to anything either. I forgot how many posts you had to make before links could be posted. There was a huge debate over all this, so I could be remembering some of this wrong, but I do remembe the spam was getting way out of hand.
There was some concern that all this would turn away new legit members, but sometimes, you have to do it. When they signed up, a disclaimer would pop up saying why all these restrictions were necessary. Most people understood, and they were the ones you wanted as part of the community. π
Anyway, good luck. We’ll keep pushing that report button. πΏ

That’s a great idea! No images or links until X amount of posts.
In addition, you could include a picture captcha. Ex: signup displays 20 pictures, and asks you to put a check next to all the pictures of cats. This works against automated bots, as does the question captcha (person must correctly answer a simple question, like “what is 7 minus 5”).August 25, 2010 at 2:35 am #825036Pam Thompson wrote:That’s a great idea! I think I remember telling newbies once upon a time that they had to make five posts before they could post pictures or links.
