I’m with you PD. We’ve had at least 6 call for heat exhaustion or heat related cardiac emergencies in the past 2 days. People do crazy stuff when it’s hot out. We have alot of monestaries by my house, and they all seem to be having retreats, and there is no AC, very few fans, and alot of stupidity. And don’t get me started on the guy who was ceo of a drug company. He knew EVERYTHING, and shame on my stupid EMT’s and Fireman, they know nothing. ::sigh:: it’s supposed to thunderstorm today, and the rest of the week looks cooler. I hope that will help.

We have a small house, so all we need is a small humidifier on wheels. We open all the windows at night, close the house up in the day, leave one window cracked to let the humidity out, and we’re alright. I also eat lots of frozen juice. 😀
I hate the heat, but at least I’m not in Phoenix!June 10, 2008 at 6:19 pm #712319I’ll take fall any day (or SNOW!!!!!)
June 10, 2008 at 6:33 pm #712320Today, the high will be around 108… and we’ve had higher. I dunno. I hate it, but I’m so use to it. I’m also someone who never steps foot outside without pants and a jacket-yes, jacket. I hate the sun! *sunblock everywhere!*
My best friend works out in the heat… sometimes I go and just sit there to talk to him and man, with me just sitting it’s freaking hot, can’t imagine someone running around and working out in it x__x I defiantly feel for anyone who does!June 10, 2008 at 6:57 pm #712321These only work when the humidity is low enough, but swamp coolers are wonderful. They’re mostly used in the desert. They work by evaporative cooling: they pull air through water-soaked straw or paper pads and then pump it into the house. The air is wonderfully cool and has a little moisture in it. It definitely smells swampy, though, and you can sure tell when the pads are due to be changed. 😆
I know these would never work back East where it’s humid, and they don’t seem to be in use up here in Sac, but they sure saved our necks in the desert! Plus they’re much less expensive to run than A/C. We also had a heat pump that we used to cool the place when a summer rainstorm would come through, but I liked the air we got from the swamps a lot better. It felt cooler.
June 10, 2008 at 7:25 pm #712322when we were in phoenix, my hubby used to go for bike rides in the summer 🙄 not motorcycle, mountain bike….Crazy! I kept my hot butt inside w/ the central air!
Right now it’s pretty hot here too, around 98 I think. We gotta go and get the dog in a little bit from the groomer and she hates this heat….
June 10, 2008 at 7:54 pm #712323We had a huge thunderstorm last night. I love thunderstorms!! But it didn’t cool down at all. Now its just hot and humid again. Isn’t it weird that most of us grew up without central air when we were kids but now can’t live without it? 😉 If I didn’t have any, I’d be sleeping in the basement.
June 10, 2008 at 8:23 pm #712324Our previous house was old too, so no AC. We 2 window units and strategically placed fans.
Get a window unit, Nam, if only for the bedroom. At least you’ll get to sleep!

June 10, 2008 at 10:13 pm #712327Its been hot here too… our house is 82 years old and we have 3 AC units in the windows… the one in the bedroom only goes on at night when we sleep. And yes, I am not looking forward to the energy bill… 🙁
