January 8, 2008 at 7:33 am #645193Well, Im going to go against to majority and say that all the Sphinxes, young and old, that Ive seen have been adorable. And I think this newborn is too. They dont stay that wrinkly of course. And thats not a good picture. As for personality, they have great socialization, very friendly, loyal and have longevity.
But, if you think maintenance is easy (grooming), think again. You trade shedding hair for oil. You pretty much have to bathe a sphinx (and perhaps a Cornish Rex which my mom has but his coat is next to nil, not curly like it should be, so he is mostly peach fuzz) weekly to get the oil clumps off of it. In other words, oils, like we secrete too, accumulate in certain areas of the animal. We dont notice this on hair cats (but you can dig down to parts of their skin and see but if youre lucky) and it gets used up and shed away. These oils must be bathed off the cat or he will look truly disgusting with bits of dark wax spots on him.
That said, go ahead and laugh at me. But I feel bad for those animals that arent born cute as a button. It makes ppl ridicule them and hurt them because they dont know what they are, or they believe they are deformed, etc. Im not saying any of you would bring harm to a Sphinx if it showed up on your step, but youd be surprised what humans do to animals that simply dont meet our beauty standards. Look what we do to each other.
Anyway, sorry for the rant. But I love those cats, and am overly passionate about animals. I know none of you mean it actual harm.
Just noticed tho- that GARGOYLOL photo is of a Sphinx.
And the rest of the photos are too funny to list which ones I love the most. They are all great but the ones LAM finds and shares, I think Ive downloaded them and sent them the most. I do love them all but frogs, though Id never hurt one, freak me out. Theres a reason behind it and it happened when I moved to FL in 93. But as a kid, I loved playing with frogs and toads in NY. So, I can pin point my experience that made me freak on frogs. Mom however, loves them to death.

I’m just glad I’m the only one in at the office right now; I don’t have to explain why I burst out laughing.
