December 28, 2007 at 10:24 pm #645023I love possums; they are adorable! Growing up in NY, we had a great group of wildlife that we’d feed regularly cause they lived on our land. We had 12 raccoons (all named) and a major possum mama, who, grew up with me and trusted our family so much that when she had babies, she brought them up on the deck one evening (we were sitting on the steps) and introduced them!
Lady (“our” Squirrel) and Chocolate Chip (“our” chipmunk) also did the same thing. In fact, they were like dogs and would come when we called out their names (like you would a dog in the distance) and theyd come galloping through the land or down their trees to come to us. They knew it was treat time and we fed them by hand, usually while each sat on our shoulders and we got nut shells in our hair and down our shirts! Even the raccoons were trusting enough for us to be around the 12 piles of kibble we put out each night for each of them. They also brought their babies to meet us at night. Was very touching.
As for the platypus, I know I heard or read it somewhere that the existence of it does prove that god has a sense of humor 😆

Darn, I thought you were going to say one showed up on your deck one day
We rescued a possum one day from a barking dog. The poor thing – the possum, not the dog – was suck in a little tree in the middle of a concrete back yard. Our old neighbour had knocked on our door a Saturday morning around 8, asking if we had lost a ferret, because one was caught in a tree. My husband went to check it out while I ran to the ferret cage to do a headcount, and then it finally dawned on me that ferrets don’t climb trees (like, duh, Sarah). Just then, Dean came home laughing, got the gloves and a dog cage. He picked up the poor possum (who had been stuck there since 6 am) – the tail caught a bit – and put him in the cage. We then put it up on our roof, against the huge tree that was leaning on the house at the time, door open. The possum made a run for it as soon as we turned our back.
And I just watched Over the Hedge last night…

No kidding!
I love the last three caturday pics, lamorte. 😆December 29, 2007 at 10:47 am #645026Thanks, I’m glad you are enjoying them! 😀
PT, what a great experience with all of your furry friends: -)
dragonmedley, so good of you and your hubby to rescue the poor possum. So many people think of them (and other wildlife) as a nuisance:-/ I know some of them can be a nuisance, but I try to balance it with the fact we are taking away so much of their natural habitat. It’s so nice to be surrounded by so many animal lovers!
I drive home early in the morning and I have to watch out for animals, esp. deer and possums. The possums are so funny…they can’t turn right around and go back across the road…they have to make a wide u-turn. 😆 😀

December 29, 2007 at 11:29 am #645028Well, time for more of my biased cuteness to ensue! You said you wouldnt mind so I have a LOT of Jester photos (some with Phoenix & Suki in them too, and a couple of Suki alone but Im not done formatting her pix yet). Theres a lot of these but I believe I made them small enough to load fast enough- and Im on dial up so I understand. Again, not as funny as the website pix, but if you knew them, youd understand the captions better and maybe appreciate the photos more. But I love them and am bursting to share. Hope it’s not a scrolling nightmare! Here we go:
Suki
Jester and Phoenix stalking the red laser light
Jester was younger here than the one above; his girth has expanded!
Suki and 9 week old Jester in beanbag
More girth!
Jester 2-1/2 months old
Jester 2-1/2 months old
Jester now 10 yrs old
Jester 1 yr old
Jester’s first Christmas, 2-1/2 months old
This is one of my favorite pix of him. Some say he looks mad but truly, he’s a very mellow kitty
Enjoying and ruining my Ab Roller with his claws & teeth. I cant find the last one of this set, where he is hanging onto it with just his front paws as he drops
Tippy- one of our Siamese’s we had when I was growing up
Hope you could handle that and liked at least a couple! More to come! Suki is next and maybe a stray photo here and there when I find them. We should also start a “Dog Day Afternoon” thread cause Ive got funny dog photos too! Yea, I know, just what you wanted to hear! 😳
December 29, 2007 at 11:37 am #645029PT, you have quite the imagination (and an adorable Jester)! They are great! 😀 😆
