π― WOW!!!
Though I could (with ease) write a whole post about how much I love this one, I do actually have a question…well okay 4 questions –
Do you have any more pictures besides the studio photos taken for the ebay auction?? I would love to see him in different lighting…his dark bits get rather lost on that black background…(does he have any of the warm highlights that the silver OWs seemed to have?)
(just curious) why doesn’t this one have those pretty new eyes you’ve been experimenting with on Olympia’s pieces??
Also, are there any plans for Olympia to do more than one of any of these color schemes? I know you’ve left it open for there to be more, but I was wondering how likely that actually was.
Thanks Melody!

October 27, 2007 at 5:10 pm #629743Silver Sun Dragon!!! *Swoons* *Begins to hum the song, “If I Had a Million Dollars.”* I LOVE those Sun Dragons! I hate that they are retired! π₯ I really do wish I could afford one of them. π
I like the grey eyes. I sitll don’t think they are as monotone as you think Melody (I think the OW is beautiful!). π Because if you think of it that way, emeralds and rubies were pretty monotone too. π (Hee hee Christmas dragons!!)
I think I just figured out what the siver reminds me of…Old, slightly polished armor. πOctober 27, 2007 at 5:15 pm #629744Arlla wrote:(just curious) why doesn’t this one have those pretty new eyes you’ve been experimenting with on Olympia’s pieces??
I can answer this one, kinda, because I was asking about those eyes for my special pieces. Melody told me that he way the dichroic glass reflects on the smaller eyes, because they are concave on the back, makes them look creepy- like dead fish eyes. They only work well on the really big eyes (i.e. Secret Keeper) because they are flatter on the back. Maybe they look okay on Oly’s green/gold oriental sun dragon because he has such vibrant colors. Maybe they looked too creepy on the monochromatic silver one?
Also, I’ve gotta agree with Arlla- the photos lately have been very dark of the auction pieces and store pieces. It’s gotten so it’s hard to really make the sculpture or color out accurately (Just my opinion!).

That’s funny. I do quite a bit of dichrioc glass fuzing as a part of my stained glass, and I’ve never had that kind of a problem. A good many of the pieces I make for earrings and whatnot are the same size of, if not smaller than a windstone eye. Maybe a different type needs to be used?

Well, as I’ve not actually seen them in this dragon (obviously) I can’t say for sure…but I do think they looked quite lovely in the previous sun dragon… and I’ve seen them at the factory in griffins, and they looked as gorgeous as ever there…

Thanks Melody! This one isn’t the same as the silver dragons I painted. It doesn’t appear that there are warm tones on this one, but the silver color does shade from almost pearl white, to almost jet black, so he definitely isn’t monotone.
This photo looks black in the shadows, because the dragon is black in the dark parts. John is still learning about his camera, too. I will ask if there are any other photos.
I, for one, would like Olimpia to do more like this, so I didn’t say in the words that this was a OOAK. Hopefully she will make a few more at least!
Olimpia chose the grey eyes. They look nice with this one.
The dichro glass eyes we have aren’t fused glass, they are our normal eyes with a dichroic coating on the back. The smooth backs of the eyes causes this coating to be extremely reflective, like a mirror. The rounded backs reflect a bright halo around the pupil. This is kinda pretty pretty, but gives the creature a staring, startled expression, that I don’t usually like. These eyes do work fairly well in some designs. The SK for example, looks pretty good with the large dichro eyes. They look ok in the Sun Dragon. but I still don’t care for themOctober 28, 2007 at 1:08 am #629750Rusti wrote:*tacks on another question* And are you going to only do ebay for the last hundred? π
I wasn’t planning to, however I’m beginning to think Olimpia should paint them all.
She has painted a few other colors on these dragons that are gorgeous, also. That could eat up quite a few of our last castings, if she does twenty or so of each.October 28, 2007 at 1:10 am #629751Pam Thompson wrote:I would love to see the orient dragons sold as production or LE in a silver scheme.
Sun Dragons are all out of production, for now. We just have this one last cart full.

October 28, 2007 at 6:40 pm #629754Thanks so much for all your answers, Melody! π
If Olympia does paint them all, then I do desparately hope that someday you start casting them again, if only on a limited basis….you SOOOOOO need to sell a LP batch of white orientals to match the rest of the whites…not to mention black gold! π
I do hope Olimpia does a bunch more of these pieces in these color schemes!
How many indivicual castings do you or Olympia or anyone have to go through in test paints before you get a color scheme you deem worth of selling??
