I picked up on the Brutus/Olive Oyl thing as a kid and wouldn’t watch it – which was fine with my mom.

My favorite cartoon as a kid was Kimba the White Lion – actually have it on DVD.

      Yay Leo! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ I love Leo/Kimba so much.
Don’t get me started on “The Lying King” though… ugh d*sney. Never did like them… even when I was younger.

HAHAHA!!! The poppye thing is funny. (it being violent) My daughter like to try to watch Rocko’s Modern Life. It’s more gorey (SP) than anything. I liked to watch Fraggle Rock when I was little, also Felix the Cat. Anyone heard of those???

        I have heard of both

Oh yes, ofcourse we love *some* of the oldies here too. Flintstones, Yogi, Jetsons….but that darn popeye πŸ™„ I didnt really care for him as kid either. My kids being 4 1/2 and 6 1/2 are very impressionable and tend to try to act out what they see on TV. So, forgive me if I’m a little critical of a sexist and violent cartoon. I am in NO way a lazy parent letting a television raise my kids, nor do I let them run around thinking the crap they see(and act out on) is OK. It’s always a fun night when they happen to see Tom & Jerry πŸ˜† .

That all being said, I posted about this simply because I think it’s funny how the ‘socially acceptible attitudes’ have changed over the years.

*sigh* Off to clean the house…..how is that for irony?? πŸ˜†

Oh, and yes, I LOVE(D) Fraggle Rock! Really any Jim Henson thing….I got the VHS videos, for my kids never really got into it…..

I loved Fraggle Rock! It’s finally on DVD too! My favorite was Wembley! I loved the Muppets too, and Dinosaurs! I loved Felix the Cat (I actually have a pair of socks with Felix on them). I don’t really find Popeye to be that entertaining; I mean, do the men in that series ever think? One functions on hormones, the other on spinach! What about using your brain??? And Olive Oyl screamed a lot; stop screaming and fight back! You’ve got arms, nails, teeth, and feet! Use them!! Oh, asinnamon, kudos for not letting your TV babysit your kids. πŸ˜‰

Kimba! OMG, there are actually other people that remember that cartoon!

Did anyone ever watch Captain Scarlet? It was more or less a puppet show that was set in the future, and they had space ships and stuff. Or Crusader Rabbit and Rags the Tiger? Or Deputy Dawg?
Or the old Hercules cartoons that were in black and white? (yeah, I’m probably dating myself here…)
There were 2 distinctly different types of Popeye cartoons; the original was done by Max Fleischer (sp) and the animation was *MUCH* better than the newer cartoons. And if you listened closely to the things Popeye mutters under his breath, you’d get a real surprise. 😯 πŸ˜‰ Definitely NOT PC. πŸ˜†
I remember Heckle and Jeckle and Mighty Mouse, Jonny Qwest, Scooby Doo; but my all time favorite cartoons were the older Warner Bros. Merrie Melodies like Bugs Bunny, and Wile E. Coyote and the Roadrunner. I think I had most of those memorized. πŸ˜† 8) Still do. They were geared towards the adults, too. A lot of the stuff they mention is war-time propaganda, and political digs. These sailed right over the kids heads, and would make the parents (or in my case, my grandparents) laugh like hell.
I dunno, but after the old cartoons with the great artwork for the animation, most of the newer cartoons are just so lame. πŸ™„

Can’t leave out Foghorn Leghorn, Porky Pig, Sylvester & Tweetie, Dastardly & Muttly, Elmer Fudd… The big rage in our house thanks to my twinners is Anamaniacs. I ‘d forgoten how funny that cartoon was (still is) πŸ˜† πŸ˜† πŸ˜†
