I don’t like this question! LOL! But if I had to pick two…
1) male peacock dragon – he was a gift from my mother for my high school graduation, so he means a lot to me.
2) red fire OW – just because he’s purdy, and I luvs him! When Katrina hit, the hubby and I packed up the two cars with clothes, animals, documents… and yes, I packed my Windstones! 😛 I only had 7 then, and there was no way I was leaving a single one behind. 😆
I also had time to make a second trip and get some of my favorite books. 😳
Ooooh 🙁 I was hoping no one had ever really had to make such a difficult decision when I brought it up 😳 I’m SO glad you were able to save everything dear to you AND your Windstones. They’re just “things” in the end, but they are very, very special things.
August 4, 2009 at 12:37 am #778435I lived a few miles to the west side of New Orleans at the time. We were very lucky. 🙂
That’s why, when I build my own place, I’m building a monolithic dome. Then I will never have to choose which ones to take! 😛
“Monolithic Domes meet FEMA standards for providing near-absolute protection and have a proven ability to survive tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, most manmade disasters, fire, termites and rot.”
There’s actually a video online somewhere of a wildfire going right over a dome! 😮
August 4, 2009 at 12:50 am #778436Man this would be hard–I love my Poads and then I love my Griffins–I don’t even want to think about it! I’d probably burn up standing there wondering hmmmmm, which one! 😈 🙄
August 4, 2009 at 12:53 am #778437I would have to save the labodorite Male Griffin and grab the Female Tiger Griffin. I feel bad leaving all my beauties behind 🙁
August 4, 2009 at 1:32 am #778438Well for me it would be very difficult to save any since it would take me for ever just to get my son out of the house with the wheelchair. Then I would have to go back in for the two cats, make another trip for the birds…if they survived the smoke. Then finaly one of the sitting griffin chick that Melody gifted me with and the bobcat, the PYO keeper “november forest” painted by Jennifer, and if I can still manage it, the gold spot male griffin by Melody and the Copper gold Emperor painted by Olimpia….I think that about covers it. I need to remember to have them all on display together so I don’t have to search. Not that I would ever have that happen but you never know.
😳 Sorry I can’t do only two…. 😮 oh forgot the spotted griffin chick that was gifted from Kyrin and Laurie! Got to save that one too!

Doesn’t matter if they’re heavy, I could just leave it in there and everything inside the safe would be fine… and then I can grab some soda for one hand out of the fridge and popcorn with the other and watch the fire show with peace of mind knowing all my babies are safe……….very hot, but safe 😀

The geology museum I work for has a collections management policy that includes a list of fossils that should be rescued in case of a destructive situation, so long as all personnel are out of the building and safe first. I’ve never been entirely comfortable with the idea of risking somebody’s health and safety to go back into a burning building for an inanimate object, but on the other hand I can entirely understand, and have thought myself about what I’d try to save from the collections. As for my Windstones, I can only cross my fingers and hope I’ll never have to make such a choice. I’d have my cat, my snakes, and my fish to rescue first!
Thinking about this question makes that pet shop scene from Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure keep popping into my head 🙂

Oh boy, FEMA standards! Those are the ones that take three days to get fresh water to dying people right?

If your house/apartment was burning, and everything important had been saved, and there was just time enough to grab ONE Windstone for EACH hand, which two would go in them?
I would grab my Peacock Oriental Sun and my male Ki-Rin I think…right now they’re my very best/most treasured pieces.Just choose the ones that you don’t think would look good with a deep golden patina. We have several that have been through in a house fire, and they have improved colors!

You probably shouldn’t intentionally try to recreate this! Depending on the heat and flames involved, fire can absolutely wreck a Windstone, or cause it to crumble to dust. The exact variables that created the look in those photos are unknown.Volunteer mod- I'm here to help! Email me for the best response: nambroth at gmail.com

As for the senario mentioned in this thread…I don’t like to think about it :nea: . When I was very little we had a fire. It wasn’t a major one (it was localized in the kitchen) but it really affected me for a long time. After it happened, I used t keep a backpack of all of my most precious items by my bed in case we had another fire and had to leave the house in a hurry. At the time my most important items were my drawing pads, drawings, crayons and coloring books and a few of my toy dinosaurs. It’s funny, because I almost completely forgot about doing that until I read this thread… -
