Updated: After I read the whole post, I would agree about the possibility of peanut oil. Children often are allergic to peanuts! That is why many planes don’t serve peanuts anymore.
You need to see an allergist eventually, but your pediatrician is capable of ordering lab work to determine food and environmental allergens via a blood test. It would be cheaper if you got your regular doctor to order a Ig panel before you go to the allergist and the results are quick. You could know what to avoid while you wait to get in to see the allergist.
That’s what many offices do, including me, because sometimes it takes a while to get a specialist. Good luck, feel free to PM me if you have questions.
Original response:
Looks like hives. Many things often never determined cause hives in kids. Viruses are most often the culprit. They actually have a skin breakout in response to the viral infection being killed by the immune system. Give 12.5 mg Benadryl every 6 to 8 hours, some steroids by mouth (from the doctor) for about 5 days.It could be allergic, try to think if she ate peanut butter, nut containing products, certain fruits, it would be something she ate only once or twice before, but not things she only had prior to the outbreak. Allergies to food occur the second or third time they are exposed, not the first time.
Don’t panic, it many last for a week or longer, but it should go away. And don’t stress if you can’t find a cause, most cases are never explained.
I have been a Peds NP and now an ENT NP for over 10 years….this is usually nothing serious….but it would be a good idea to have your pediatrician check her, just to make sure there is nothing more serious going on. It is hard for me to see in the pictures if the rash is raised like a wheal or flat.
Could you describe them?
