OK, so I’m starting to feel like I’m shouting into the abyss when it comes to job hunting. I haven’t gotten a single interview since I started looking and it’s telling on my nerves.
So in the next week or so I’m going to be writing up a freelance contract and having it looked at to make sure I can use it and then I’ll be open to full on freelance.
So if you know someone who needs print or web design done, please send them my way. I already have someone who is getting her masters in creative writing that wants me to do her stuff for her as an author, I just have to get a contract together and get organized with her, but the one job won’t pay the bills forever.
That means website in HTML/CSS (can’t get fancy with PHP or anything, don’t know it, and my Javascript is very basic), print work like flyers, brochures, CD covers, etc, etc, branding (logos and all), I’ll do it.
I’m redoing my website, but I hope to have it up soon.
Thanks guys!
October 9, 2008 at 9:11 pm #735736I’d love to help but since my bf is a graphic designer, not to mention free… π
October 10, 2008 at 12:06 am #735737That sucks about the job hunt. π
Good luck!
October 10, 2008 at 5:26 am #735738Good luck, Rusti. I’d like to commission some more photo manips from you, but I’m going to be pretty broke for the next 6 months… π
October 10, 2008 at 12:55 pm #735739Aw Rusti, I’m sorry. So many of my friends can’t find jobs right now either! Even at retail/fast food places. My husband aggressively job hunted- for any kind of job- for over 6 months this year before he finally got a job over an hour away. :/ It’s really rough.

I still have my retail job at Penney’s, but it only pays $8.32 an hour – not enough for me to pay my credit cards, my bills and my student loans which will come due in February.
There are a lot of design jobs being posted, but I think there’s a lot of people clamoring for them too. I just don’t stand out in the crowd enough, apparently.
October 10, 2008 at 2:23 pm #735741I’m in the same boat. I do get part time jobs at the university I got my degree at, but it doesn’t always pay enough either. This semester I should be okay, but spring semester I’m going to have to look for a second job too. If I could just get something full time…

Yeah, all I’m really looking for is a full time position that’s going to help me grow up as a designer and that pays at least $30k a year.
I guess that’s too much to ask. ;P
I’ll just have to plug along, do design where I can and maybe before long I’ll have something Really Cool(TM) for my portfolio.
October 10, 2008 at 7:00 pm #735743I’d send my mother your way, but she has my brother making her webpage. She wants to sell her calendars and pictures on the internet (as I’ve been telling her to for the last 5 years).

Ah, I see. Well at least you have that job? π
I have to laugh when I see folks talking about making ‘only’ $8.00/hr. That’s more than I’ve ever made! πVolunteer mod- I'm here to help! Email me for the best response: nambroth at gmail.com

Not that it’s any of my business but did you ever think of going into the cleaning business for a little bit until you find something else?
I charge $17 and hour and that is for in the country… in the city they told me that they charge $20 and up. π―
I clean mostly in the city now but still charge $17 Canadian. I’ll have to rethink that since gaz prices are forever going up! π―October 11, 2008 at 1:40 am #735746Jennifer wrote:Rusti wrote:Jennifer wrote:Aw Rusti, I’m sorry. I have to laugh when I see folks talking about making ‘only’ $8.00/hr. That’s more than I’ve ever made! π*laughs* But I’ve also made a lot better! I made $11.50 as a vet tech in Champaign.
I’ve been with no job at all once or twice, so I’m certainly grateful that I have it, it’s just not enough (it could be slightly more comfortable if I got more hours, but Penney’s is being stingy with those).
BDW: I can’t keep my own house clean, it’s not likely I’d be able to clean someone else’s. π
