September 18, 2008 at 10:53 pm #732275AnonymousYou win the award for the “most fragmented hard drive ever to cross my desk”.
I mean, when it gets bad enough to create a blue screen (STOP 0x24 error to be precise), has to be defragged from Linux (since it won’t boot Windows), and takes TWO and a HALF DAYS… yeah…it’s pretty bad.
But.. it has been resurrected, all data intact.
Word to the wise.. defrag your hard drives once a month .. everybody. It’ll save you headaches down the road and keep your comp running faster. It also saves wear and tear on the hard drive itself.
September 18, 2008 at 11:19 pm #732276heh heh heh heh…………… 😳
I meant to, I swear! *is going to defrag the laptop after I finish what I’m doing tonight* I just never had that much time when I could not be using my computer to do it… (you know, once it got to the point of where it would take 2 days to defrag it).
On the other hand… yay I win an award! 😛 Not the kind of award I want…
All bow to the mighty computer fixing powers of Snap! *is obviously very happy that it’s fixed*
September 18, 2008 at 11:22 pm #732277*bows to Snap*
What’s defragging mean?
September 19, 2008 at 1:23 pm #732278WOW! It really does help, huh? I defrag my home pc every three months, but the computers at work tend to run to seed… 😆
Yay for Snap!

What’s defragging mean?
I think, that it means it takes all the scattered fragments of programs and gets it back together as a whole. (If not, Snap can correct me. But, you have to remember, I am not a pc wiz kid either.) I know how to do it on my pc, and if you look at your tools menu, you should have it in there. I know it opens up more space, and is good to do atleast once a month. I do it twice a month (Keeps the time it takes to a minimum) and delete my cookies weekly. 😀 (I surf alot, when I have time. 😳 )
September 19, 2008 at 4:04 pm #732280AnonymousThat’s basically the idea.
The reason is happens …
Computer writes a file to the drive…
XXX____________
Then it writes another one..
XXXYYYYY_______
Then another…
XXXYYYYYZZZZ__
Then you delete one…
XXX_____ZZZZ__
Then you save another file that is not small enough to fit in the hole..
XXXAAAAAZZZZAAA__
Now the hard drive has to jump around looking for the parts. Defragging does this:
XXXZZZZAAAAAAAA__
So when your hard drive sounds like a load of silverware going through the garbage disposal, do a defrag.
September 19, 2008 at 4:12 pm #732281AnonymousBah, looks like my brother’s laptop has the same issue. About 70% fragmentation and he was blue screening as well. Fixed it and am watching it defrag for an hour now and it’s still at 0% …. 🙄
September 19, 2008 at 5:42 pm #732282Wait, so mine was worse then 70%? I remember you saying there wasn’t a file on there that was whole…?
September 19, 2008 at 6:48 pm #732283AnonymousYours was 100%. It even impacted your memory swap file, which is why your computer crashed.
September 19, 2008 at 6:53 pm #732284O.O
scary
September 19, 2008 at 6:56 pm #732285AnonymousJust think how well your computers would run if you treated them like Windstones! Cleaned them once a month, didn’t hit them or drop them, etc.
😆
September 19, 2008 at 6:57 pm #732286lol I don’t hit my computer! *gives computer a hug*
it does get pretty dusty though >.> man, when we opened it to see what size graphics card I needed the thing was COVERED in dust.
Terrible.

Does that mean I have to stop cussing at it too? 😳
September 19, 2008 at 7:45 pm #732288I smack it every once in a while… only if I’m REALLY annoyed with it though…
However I have learned that seatbelts are also for loose objects in the vehicle…. 😆
