well the Rumor is TRUE!! they are shipping my job off to Alabama and not allowing us to follow the work
Part of dispatch is staying on San Ramon and part in Pasadena but only like 50 in each area. In the north just in my dept we have like 200 just in dispatch Alice the 3rd level has others that are going to be affected by this.
We have asked for a master list to see in black and white how many this will ruin.
I only have 10 years so I will still be in the bottom 1/3
It sounds like they will be offering early retirment buy out (ERB) for those that will qualify in age and years, then Esro which is making a flat cash offer to leave the company along with the balloon payment you also get a lump sum according to how many year of service you would have, typically it’s $25,000 plus the lump sum. In my case 10 years of service at 20 weeks of pay at almost $1100 a week so about $50,000 total BUT that is before taxes so about $25,000 free and clear BUT no job
I had a rep on my phone yesterday and I’m learning a LOT about it now. Since we are union and have it built into our contract about these things and I’m still trying to make sure I have the facts correct but it sounded like since I don’t qualify for the ERB and don’t want the Esro I can stay with the company in what they call Surplus and the company HAS to find me a job with in 2 months the problem there is it can be anywhere in the state and CA is a VERY large state, If they offer me a job I have to take it or leave the company so I coudl be anywhere from Redding to San Diego

no time off to look for a place to live or sell my condo either

        You are welcome
I just need a job and money is all, well a place to live but I can get that with the job and money part

        #810291

Tough luck, that. Hope they offer you something you can actually use from where you are. I’ll add you to my prayers.

Pity you haven’t even the option of following the job though. B’ham’s where I started my Windstone collection, back when there were still Wicks N’ Sticks in the malls.

Awe man, that’s crap luck right there. I hope something comes up that’s good news, because that $25 grand isn’t good news without the paying job to go with it.

That sucks, hun. Hope they can find you a job close by.

I’m very sorry to hear all of this DM. I hope they find you something. A job would mean a lot more to me than the severance package too. If you do have to move, I hope the condo sells quickly.

I’m sorry as well to hear that this is happening to you. It’s so scary right now and nothing is secure. You could be fine, working and then BAM! You get news like this and your world is turned upside down. Believe me, I sympathize with you! Hope something comes up for you soon and it will be close to where you’re currently living.

DM let us know how things are going 🙁 I hope the best for you.

              #810298

How are things going, DM? Have you decided to stay with the company or go with a buy out? Things must be very stressful right now so any time you need to vent we are here for you.

I’m sticking with it until they kick me out!!
they are going to be offering ERB (early retirment buy out) for those that qualify, to retire you need your age and years of service to add up to 75 so as an example I’m 43 with 10 years total 53 with the usual 4+4 (4 added to age and years of service) that they offer for ERB I would total 61 but a far cry from 75
Since I don’t qualify for ERB I will be offered Esro which is the $25,000 plus seperation pay which is $20,000 for 10 years
they are letting 12 go in May with more to follow
Today our 3rd level said they will find work for us if we want to stay I’m just not sure for how long
per our contract it has to be at least thru 2012 but who know after that

I will fall into a surplus mode looking for a perm job
I did find out I will only be seperated from the company if I turn down a job more then 20 miles further then my current commute which is 70 miles at present
I wish I had NEVER bought my condo I was 4 miles from work before I bough it

I’m so sorry to hear this, DM. Seems like we’re all getting screwed by the man lately. Prayers for you.
Is renting out your condo a possibility? I’d only use an agency, though. If you can find a renter to cover your expenses there, maybe you can try putting it on the market in the meanwhile, even as a rent to own. Then perhaps you’d have more leeway to follow a job.

Renting out the sondo is NOT an option at this time
My payments fro the condo are like $1700 a month plus HOA dues of $225
the most I could rent it out for would be about $800 a month and I can’t even rent anything for that much that would be big enough for me especially with my credit as it is now

Ah. Here, the real estate prices have plummetted to half of what they were, but rents haven’t dropped at all. There are many many people looking to rent instead of buy, also. (too many too tight hoops to jump through for most of the people who’d want the cheap houses, so they have to rent. The houses pretty much only sell to investors as future rentals when they really drop in price)
