I’m a slow painter, I’ve had this kirin a long time playing with different colors and experiments and stuff. I actually broke a small piece of the bottom eye lid off when I was trying to figure out how to get the eyes out. I finally decided to stick with something and finish it.

He’s not sealed yet, I can’t find my Krylon spray can = I may have left it outside the last time I used it and it’s gone.

I don’t know if I want to antique the scales or leave them alone. I kinda like the plain look.

The pictures are bad. The flash kills the shading and the no flash is grainy. So it’s an inbetween kinda

he’ll be up for sale or trade when I finish him, if anyone is interested PM me

I like it.. but I do think it could use just a tiny bit of antiquing…

maybe but a coat of sealer on.. and then do a light antiquing.. and if it doesn’t look good you can still take it off..

I second frozen’s suggestion of antiquing. Nothing drastic. Just a slightly darker color to give more definition.

I also agree on adding a coat of sealant first before antiquing, if you are afraid of ruining what you have done now. I’ve been doing that a lot lately, like the griffins I’m finishing now. After all the markings I just did, with the thin layers, I’d wipe a bunch off when I wiped the antiquing off if I didn’t. It has helped save me much fixing later on.

I’ll try that with the sealer. Should the fur be antiqued? or just the scales? or all of it? what color? just a darker color of the base color?

I love starting these things, but I’m not that great at finishing them 🙂 Which is why I loved starting the Travelling kirin ^^

Dark brown is probably what I’d use to antique that one. =) He looks good so far! Great job on those color transitions! I think a glossy sealer would be nice, but that’s just me. c.c I like them shiny. XD

Darker, as in a darker shade of the color you are antiquing over. If you are antiquing over a brown, go a shade or two darker brown for the antiquing. If grey, antique with a darker gray.

I would personally do both the scales and the fur, but I think the scales need it more, at least from the photo with the gray, just for a little definition.

Good luck! He’s looking very nice! 😀

I too agree that antiquing would help bring him out a bit more, but I love the shading…great job.

I like how gentle the colors are. Nice work! 😀

thanks ^^ I think I do kirins best, I love the fur. I have a harder time with the scales, I never know what’s going to look good with the color fur I painted. I need to do the fur, and someone else can finish the scales 😆 I need to try a unicorn 😀

I still haven’t finished my dragon -_- I’d bought it to paint for my boyfriend a year ago…yeah…

My griffin is finally going somewhere, he’s had three different color patterns on him already. I bought him for the last swap and changed my mind because I messed it up x.X

My wolf…has been the same for a while now. blah.
