This is Phoenix the newest member to the rescue/family. He’s an 8 year old sun conure that his mom could no longer keep because they had a baby. He’s doing well but doesn’t seam to like the other birds, just my hair LOL.

Oh and if anyone in the Tyler, TX area is ever interested in adopting/buying a bird let me know 🙂

Awww sun conures. They are pure balls of love, energy, snuggles… and horrifically loud shrill screaming. 😆

Gave him up after 8 years because they had a baby? These birds can live 35+ years, they are as much of a commitment as a child… Oooh, I gotta bite my tongue. >_<

I love conures! they’re so sweet!! They were always my favorite when I was the manager at the pet store! People don’t realize sometimes how much of a commitment they are, I used to have to discourage people from buying them on a whim.

                +1 *sigh*

At least you’re giving him a good home. 😀

Well he’s a very pretty bird!

All I will say is I hate my friends conure (green conure) I was near his cage and he bit me. I wasn’t teasing him, I swear… that made a nice hole in my finger though. 🙄

But apparently that same bird is all lovey with his owner, I was just a new person I think. I probably deserved it.

I have a friend on who’s mom had 2 conures, both green but one had a black head. The black headed one was male, the other female. They were in separate cages… The male would SCREAM when he saw anyone… loud and annoying. The female learned how to “talk”… lol

There is nothing like hearing one bird scream and the other to tell it to “Shut Up” over and over again. 😆

That is a gorgeous bird, I’m glad you’re giving him a good home.

And I’m going to play devils advocate here for a moment….

While I agree that taking on a pet (of any kind) is a huge resonsibility I am also aware that things happen in life that may necessitate giving that animal up. A Child is a huge life change and the doctor may have recommended (there are some that recommend giving up animals when you are pregnant or have a baby) that the family give up the bird or the child may have allergies and unfortunately we cannot simply give up the child (imagine the public uproar if that happened!) so it is the animal who has to go. At least the former family took the time and care to find a place where the bird would be happy and loved and maybe even have a chance at a forever home, which is much better than simply dumping the animal at a shelter, or turning it loose!

I’m not looking to start an arguement but felt that sometimes we need to look at the other side of the arguement too 😉

Good for you again enchantments for giving this lovely guy a second chance!!

Oh I wish I could have one but can’t. 🙁
Can I see close-ups of him?

I guess I just don’t understand. What is the difference between saying “I can not longer keep my feathered companion of 8 years that depends on me in every way because there is a new baby on the way,” and saying “I can no longer keep my 8 year old child that depends on me in every way because there is a new baby on the way”? A sun conure poses no health risks; it can’t jump on the baby and hurt it. If the baby has allergies that is one thing, and I can understand that. But otherwise I am left scratching my head. The complaint of ‘too noisy/too messy/not enough time’ doesn’t fly with me; again I can only make the point that an 8 year old child would be just as messy/noisy and probably more time consuming.

This is why I can never be a parent. 😆

Awwww… I so would love a sun conure. Someday when I’m more settled and not at home.
