Having moved to a more rural area, we now have different wildlife visitors.
These aren’t new…
chickadee
Cardinal
Junko
Red-breasted nuthatcher
These were new:
White breasted nuthatcher – I love this guy! He clucks and squeaks, a bit like a squeaky toy. In some positions, he looks like a penguin 🙂
Downy woodpecker (we also get the hairy; same thing, just bigger)
Now this one was special for me. It’s too bad the pics were taken inside via a window that needs to be changed – the pelagic woodpecker
And while seeing mallards is nothing new, the little ones were!
Some of the ducklings were up on the lily pads 🙂
I’ll post pics of the other ducks we’ve seen once I figure out where Warp10 saved them…
Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

I host the feedback lists, which are maintained by drag0nfeathers.

Male Hearth....one day🤞Dream on.July 12, 2014 at 7:36 pm #915507Oh that is wonderful! We had a woodpecker once pecking on our house! I wanted to get pictures, but he flew away. Mostly in our yard I just see robins, magpies, black-capped chickadees, and common redpolls. I hear a lot more birds, and we have an owl that shows up in a group of trees in the backyard (never seen him though). A few years ago we had a Steller’s Jay visit, and I think the birds that I saw on our neighbor’s roof might have been Lincoln’s Sparrows.
At my sister’s place, there is a pair of Red-necked Grebes out on the lake. Their eggs should have hatched by now.

He’s always getting chased off by jealous smaller birds. We also have a local osprey and a whole bunch of really adorable wild California Quail trooping about. 😀

Excellent!

I live in what is considered the inner city area of a city of 1.2 million people but we still get wildlife! In my area we have the usual Robins, Sparrows, Chickadees, Crows & Magpies (that taunt the dog from the telephone wires) but I’ve also seen a Flicker around, it never stays long enough to get a pic, a Woodpecker of some sort and the occasional Whiskey Jack and Blue Jay. I’ve also seen Red Tail Hawks, Peregrine Falcons and Owls in the area. There is also a whole flock (counted 14 of them one day) of some sort of ground bird in the area, we think they are Prairie Chickens of some sort. They’re way to big to be quail and don’t have the long tail feathers like pheasants.
We also have Jack Rabbits everywhere (which the dog loves), skunks, porcupines, coyotes & deer (that eat my plants in the spring). I know there are Black Bears, the occasional Grizzly, Ospreys, Cougars, Lynx and Moose up by the reservoir.
Our City has a network of Parks and Pathways along both rivers so at least once a year or so something, usually a young moose but have seen bears, wanders into downtown and they have to shut down areas until Fish and Wildlife can catch it and take it back to where it belongs 🙂
