Pretty! Will you antique him?
I want to but I get so afraid I’d wreck him after all the blending I did for the individual scales. Do you have any advice Jennifer? What color do you think I should antique him?

😳 Aww!!! You make me blush Koshii.

I was going for a “rising” sun effect so I wanted it to blend from light to dark…it didn’t work out like I had planed in my head, but I still am pleased with how it came out.

Woo! Thanks Zym! I didn’t plan on all the blended scales, it just kind of happened that way.

June 3, 2008 at 6:43 am #709300incredibly beautiful!
I especially like the depth of the colors, they suck you in. I know it isnt healthy for the figure, but I’d not glaze him, he’d lose this “suck in” effect.June 3, 2008 at 7:33 am #709301Very nice, drag0n. The blending is beautiful.

I antique right over the paint, but! If you are worried about ruining him, spray him with a glossy spray first. Let it dry fully and ‘harden’ so that it is not at all tacky. Then antique him with the antiquing gel or another product similar… stuff that can be wiped off all the way up to when it’s nearly dry (And sometimes even when it is dry if you use a large ratio of gel to paint when mixing the antique). The gloss sealer will protect your paint job from being ‘lifted’ or otherwise marred when you antique in case you don’t like the antique and want to wipe it off.
I don’t know if it will help- please forgive me if I’m intruding! But if this were a piece I was painting this is how I’d do it:
If It were me, I’d antique him in sections depending on the color. e.g. I’d antique his blue areas with a slightly darker blue/purple, and his yellow areas with a either a slightly darker amber color, or a muted magenta… that would look pretty on his wings since they transition from a magenta color to the yellow. I have a color here called Quinacridone Magenta that I’d probably mix with just a tiny touch of blue to get my antique color for the wings. I wouldn’t antique the back of the wings where the feathers are, you already created that effect with your wonderful blending. 🙂Volunteer mod- I'm here to help! June 3, 2008 at 7:51 pm #709304I love him , the colors are so beautiful! Do you use an airbrush or do you paint by hand? The blending of color is amazing 😯 . I think antiquing will really bring out of those scales to 😉 .

I got advice from Jennifer on a PYO I’m painting!? *swoon* Thankyou SO MUCH!!! I will try it!
If I seal him up first then that should make it much easier. I honestly never thought if that! It’s not so much antiquing that bothers me it’s when wiping, my paint is so delicate from the multiple layers for the blending it can wipe right off the piece if you’re not careful. Then you have a white patch that is IMPOSSIBLE to match up perfectly again.
Thank you very much for the advise!!! You’re not intruding at all. I consider it a compliment you think a PYO I painted is worth some guidance. That means it sparks your interest enough to “dare I say” be ALMOST up to Windstone standards! LOL! At least that makes me feel like that anyway. It’s inspiring really! <3 <3 <3 ……..hmmm….maybe I'm reading too deep into this. hahaha!
Anywho, thanks for the compliments everyone! I’m glad you like him!
Sorry Akeyla…I hope he still “suck you in” when I’m done antiquing him. 😉
purpleturtle, no airbrushing here. I do it all by hand. It takes FOREVER! I’m confindent in saying though my blending is kind of what I’m known best around here for.

June 4, 2008 at 12:55 am #709307I like his coloring. He’s the first one I’ve seen that appears to have a matte finish rather than a semi-gloss or glossy. It makes him look as though he’s been carved out of pastels. 😉
July 5, 2008 at 7:09 pm #709308Yay…I finished him and he’s in the gallery now. With any luck I’ll be sticking a few old PYOs and some I’m going to be finishing up this week on ebay. I think I’m going to keep this guy though. I’ve grown really fond of him!
