New Purple Ki-Rin & Funny New Trinket

I’ve been stuck on my PYO wolves lately, so I decided to go back to Ki-Rins and Griffins for a bit. So far I just finished this purple Ki-Rin. I was thinking of trying to paint a picture of a cherry blossom on the scales, but I’m afraid I might wreck it. I used alot of purple interference that looks really nice in person, but doesn’t photograph well, but you get the idea.

I’m really pround of the antique on the scales. It took like 20 tries, but it’s finally perfect! *sigh*

Oh, and my new little trinket! I thought it was hysterical. My sister is going to put it on the table at her resturant when she has her sweet 16 parties at work. LOL!

Very striking! The lighter and darker shades of purple work really well, and the scales look great. I bet Cheryl will like him….

She’s beautiful! I really like how you did the scales – how did you manage that?

They took a long time. I painted them a really light ivory color solid first and then antiqued them with a mixed color I used for the lighter part of the mane by using an antiquing medium in the paint, which makes it a little easier to rub off when its wet. After it dried, it had a ton of streaks since it was a white base coat so I had to drybrush the ivory again over the antique and then I used a really watered down portion of the antique mixture and outlined every individual scale and wiped them lightly with my finger so it came out like a perfect outline. It was a pain in the butt, but it came out like I drew them on with a pencil. It looks really cool. I’m actually really pleased with something I did for once =) YAY!
