Sorry if this doesn’t exactly go here… but I’m psyched! π
A friend of mine, Sommer Prosser, who sculpts model horses… was commissioned by Sandicast to sculpt a new line of Original finish, Resin horses! So far she has finished three for them… as a sort of trial… to test the waters so to speak… See the pic she scanned of their catalog:
Now… these AREN’T out yet… they are on the “slow boat from China” right now… they’ll probably start hitting retailers in April/May….
But they are cast in resin… with glass eyes… and WOW do they look good! π
I’m so psyched about these… I want to help support Sommer in any way (hence the post). These guys were commissioned on a “royalties” basis. Meaning every model purchased… puts money in her pocket!
and the best thing… these guys are quoted at $40 each! that’s IT! for an ARTIST resin quality piece! Oh I can’t wait! π
I’m also insane enough to contemplate becoming a retailer of these guys. Hey I have a business license… I just need to figure out how to do it right!? π We’ll see what the companies requirements are… I have emailed them…
But yeah… I thought I’d spread the word around…
And for more information… join her yahoo group! She has a very long post detailing these horses out… and any further updates will be posted there! ^.^
January 30, 2007 at 6:47 pm #534168That quarter horse really reminds me of a Breyer model. $40 is a great price. Is that because they’re made in China?
January 30, 2007 at 6:56 pm #534169I think it’s partially because they are made in China…
But also because of the company. They don’t sell high end stuff like that… and mostly their line consists of dog and cat sculptures.
From what Sommer said… they can’t believe anyone would want to pay $40 for a horse sculpture. π
Glad they don’t know about the $100… and $200+ ones! HA HA! π
I think they will be pleasantly surprized by their numbers. So far… on other boards that I frequent… these horses have received a VERY warm welcome. I think they’ll sell well. π
I just hope she can sculpt more… like a donkey… and a pony… and any numerous OTHER breeds! π
January 30, 2007 at 7:02 pm #534170Have fun painting!
January 30, 2007 at 7:02 pm #534171I hope they do well, too! How cool!
February 14, 2007 at 3:09 am #534172OK, I’ll have to find a Sandicast retailer. My mom breeds Arabs, and she’d LOVE that beautiful model.
February 14, 2007 at 3:33 am #534173She needs to do a Fjord horse. Not many good ones out there.
February 20, 2007 at 1:04 pm #534174Wow, for Sandicast those don’t look bad at all but it’s nowhere near as nice as Summer’s “hobby quality” work. π I’m sure though she had to get them done quick and hey for only $40 they are great! I bought a Time Piece resin by Summer and it was beautiful all painted up. She has really created some awesome sculptures for the hobby.

Yup… I have Sumara (which the Arabian that Sandicast is doing is a remade version of Sumara)… and she is GORGEOUS! her costume should be done (waiting on pics) then I need to get her painted up!!! so she can show it off! π
Sommer’s awesome to talk to too… both she and Kathleen Moody live in Phoenix. π I get to see them every once in a while. π In fact Sommer just came down to our Model Horse show this weekend. π
