I think she means to just not pester the cat and try to pet it if it doesn’t come to you, by “ignore.”

She’s warming up to me a bit, just very slowly. She came out of the closet where she’d been hiding (my cat is out of the closet, oh no!) and hid under the bed! *laughs* But she’s come out from under the bed a few times now, and even jumped up onto it and sat next to me for a few minutes and let me pet her, so I think she’ll be just fine.

I’m thinking today I might try and introduce the cats to eachother. Which is always a tricky thing to do!

Whenever we introduced cats, we just let one loose in one room and let the other loose in another and ignored them. there was always hissing and hiding, but I dont remember any fighting.

*nods* Yeah. I’ve been keeping the new one in my room, the other has the run of the house. I’m just goig to open the door and let them sort it out. Not sure who’s going to end up top cat! Kali, our older cat, is quite assertive, but very gentle natured. She’s never bit or attacked or anything. The new cat seems more shy, but more of a fighter. Who knows?

My mom sent me an article and if you can for at least the first few hours open a door just a little bit so they can see eachother and paw at eachother but not be able to attack eachother. Once they finally get used to eachothers scents and the sight of eachother they should be fine.
I’m very glad to hear that she is warming up to you. I’m sure she was just totally shocked

Yup, she is much more calm now. I was petting her and she gave me a polite, gentle warning nip when she was tired of being petted. The biting must have just been because she was scared.

well it also may be jsut something thy do. Mine will still bite gently then lick the area they bit. I have no idea why they do that but I think it’s funny

Kali does that all the time! She’ll be purring when you pet her, and then she’ll grab the hand you’re petting her with in her paws, and bit it, and then lick, lick, lick all over. But that’s a nice, playful kind of bite. Those are okay. It’s when they try to actually hurt you that it’s a problem.

Not yet. I take the naming of cats pretty seriously. The name has to be right! (And not silly or fluffy or cutesy either.) I haven’t come up with anything that suits yet.

And I’ll post photos in a bit. I haven’t got any of the new cat yet. She’s hiding under the bed again, but I’ll try to take a picture when she comes out.

                          How’d you name Kali?

There’s no actual story. I’d just been thinking of names for days, going over names and names and names, and it just popped into my brain, and I knew it was perfect!

Because she is hyper and chews on boxes and knocks things over and runs around like she’s gone craz, and in general makes a mess, so naming her for the Hindu goddess of destruction seemed appropriate for that reason, and then it sounds like “Cali” as in “Calico” which is what color she is, so it was doubly appropriate.

She was called “Daisy” at the shelter, but there’s no way a cat of mine would be named something so cutesy. Especially as every time I said it, I’d end up with the song “Daisy, Daisy” stuck in my head!

my friend and co-worker just got a dog and named her Daisy. I can not remember what mix she is but she looks like the dog in the old Blondie and Dagwood cartoons so it was perfect
